Yes, The 11.5" rotors [292 mm] are the only ones which will work with this 4 pot Nissan [H-D] caliper. Also you need to make sure that you have the correct center hole on the rotor for your front wheel. Harley increased the diameter of the center hole in 2000 [I think].

Do you guys know if the fork lowers from a 2000+ dyna and sportster are the same?

I have 2000+ sportster front end to put on my fxr but its only single disc, i have 2 4pot calipers and a 11/16 M cylinder and 2" longer tubes, so just need a right side lower with caliper brackets to complete the package

Looking on Ronnies parts finder the fork sliders of the dyna and sporty have different parts numbers. Its does'nt seem they have right side fork lowers with caliper brackets for the sporty.

Dont want to order a dyna lower then find out it has diff axle dia or some other differences.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Hi Bob
By looking at Ronnie's microfiche I see that they have the same parts numbers so yes they are the same.
I don't think Ronnie's will sell just one side but I'm not sure.
I have also heard that they won't ship to Europe.

Can I re-use my 35mm front axle and wheel AND 11.5" rotors." According to all you have written you should be good to go with your caliper adapters. In 2000 when H-D switched to the new four pot Nissan calipers they changed the bolt hole pattern on the sliders of Sporties, Dynas and FXR's so the new calipers don't mount up on the old fork sliders. I'm pretty sure H-D used the same sized 3/4" front axle on both Sporties, FXR's and Dynas on both 35 mm forks and 39 mm forks. So, your engineering change should be a simple bolt together op! And all the front four pot calipers were interchangeable on the all the Sporties, Dynas, Softtails and baggers. Call me at 270-234-6211 or email me at kdkerr2@msn.com if you have any problems. Please post a pic of your bike when you get your changeover completed.
You called it. The adapter plates I got bolted the Nissen calipers right onto the 88-99 39mm forks. The same year Axle fit right into my 87 wheel with 11.5" rotors. Now I'll have to plumb in the 11/16" master cylinder with banjo fittings and brake lines. You ARE the man!

Thanks! Looking good! I suggest you purchase some stainless steel socket head or hex head bolts for your adapter brackets. Those blued bolts turn bright orange after the first rain!

Back again. I've got a bare 11/16" master cylinder. Bore is clear and looks good. However, I've noticed the rebuild kits available look to be a different design than the original. Also, I got a somewhat cryptic warning from the guy I got the MC from. He said "Don't use the aftermarket rebuild kits, use an original Harley 11/16" kit". Anybody have any experience or opinions on this?

Also, I'm seeing the OEM Harley kit is still available from Ronnies but they're showing the "sight glass" MC version. Mine has no sight glass. Would internals be the same?

Buy the Harley rebuild kit from Ronnie's H-D. You can't go wrong. My only experience with Harley master cylinder rebuilds is for my '06 XL883 Sportster. It's got an underslung rear master cylinder which can be problematic. I've had my mechanic install 2 H-D rebuild kits in it, not aftermarkets. There's something bad about these master cylinders and whenever they lose their prime you have to install a new rebuild kit in them or they won't pump up.

Well, here's the deal. I rebuilt the 11/16" master cylinder with a $15 Drag Specialties kit. Looked OK. Did it right. Got the master on the bike, pumped... and pumped.. and bled and pumped. For a day and a half. Nuthin'.

Found an OEM Harley kit on Surdykes site. $50 delivered. Tore the master down and rebuilt it again with the Harley kit and installed it. Pumped and bled for 30 minutes. Got pressure this time. Live and learn.

On Master Cylinder Problems
I have most of my mechanic work done at Junction City Cycles in Junction City KY if I can't do it myself. Twice I had my 06 Sportster in for work. Shotgun [the owner] was working on my rear brake. I don't recall if he at first tried to use an aftermarket master cylinder rebuild kit but he couldn't get the rear brake to pump up. The Sportster had the underslung master cylinder which has been problematic. Harley abandoned it in '13 and went back to a side mounted master cylinder on Sportster. Both times I'd get a phone call from Shotgun telling me he couldn't get my rear brake to pump up and I had to go to BlueGrass Harley Davidson in Louisville and purchase H-D OEM rear master cylinder rebuild kits. After Shotgun installed them they pumped up with no problems! I haven't heard of other bros having this much trouble with their Sportster rear underslung master cylinders on this forum or the XL Forum.

I bought one of those Asian replacement cylinders for the rear my FXR. $59 vs $200 for a NOS cylinder. In the end it cost me money. It cost me a rotor, set of sintered pads, caliper piston and a caliper seal set, and all the rubbers. Plus I had to buy the oem cylinder.

I didn't know it was dragging until I pulled off the big slab and noticed the rear brake was hard as a rock. Soon as I got stopped, the stench became noticeable. The brand new polished stainless rotor was dished like the sprocket.

Ok now. Took the Old Geezer Glide out for a nice ride. Front brake pressure was dead on. I enjoyed the day... until. About an hour out, I started hearing a constant squeak coming out of the front end. Took it home thinking it might be a wheel bearing problem. Examination showed a heavy buildup of brake dust on the right side rotor, outside and inside. Left side rotor was clean and normal. Wheel spun freely. Calipers were not rebuilt prior to installation. Pads had good meat on them so I slapped them on. Like I said, pressure is good and it's easy to lock up the front wheel now. Calipers are Nissen four pot touring style mounted with adapters and shimmed to center with washers. Any ideas?

How old are the brake lines? Sometimes they deteriorate and may be obstructing the proper function on the right side and not letting all of the fluid relieve pressure.

I bought this 5/8 master cylinder to go on the twin disc front im going to install , after the talk on importance to use OEM harley rebuild kits here, i will order a kit from jw boon. But i dont know what bike or year model the master cylinder came from and looking in my FXR parts catalog there are 3 different part numbers for various models or years.
45006-87
45063-82A
4507-87

Any idea on which part number i should use to order a rebuild kit for this 5/8 mastercylinder?
