Why so many v-rod haters?

Seems to me most old harley guys don't like them, why is that? How many have actually ridden one? Is it cause they are scared of something different and new? I know the just don't sound like a real harley, but with the right pipes they sound pretty good. I just road a cvo deuce and a vegas with a big bore and I hate to say it but the vegas felt more harley like than the deuce. The vegas had way more power and sounded great, the deuce still has stock pipes which really are restrictive but the guy is going to leave them on. I couldn't believe how similiar they felt, handling wise they felt identical. My v-rod is soo much lighter and faster than either one though. I also am getting real tired of the gas tank under the seat, but really would miss the power. I know most guys are'nt that concered with hp, but I am. My dealer has a electra glide with a 103 and a 6 speed that I hope to ride someday (its the owners bike) cause I think it is just what I am looking for. Anybody ridden something similiar? Well enuff rambling, any opinion on all this is appreciated.

its a "tradition" thing. the vrod is a long way from harley roots and traditional styling. to some that makes it an outsider.
the beemer boys were the same way when the k bikes were introduced.

humans are interesting animals. cant just accept and not buy. havta find a reason it shouldnt exist. then they sit down at their chinese furniture, type on their japanese computer while they scratch their ass through sweat shop underwear and try to find the cheapest way to do whatever it is they want to do next while they complain about being underpaid for doing less than the guy before them. go figure.

Because they're ugly, sound weird and aren't REALLY Harleys. :D

Perhaps a better question would be why anybody hates anything anyone else rides/drives/has. Makes no sense to me. I buy what I want, you buy what you want and we're all happy campers. I really don't care if a person rides a traditional Harley, a V-Rod or a metric. Hell, I don't even care what kind of oil anyone else uses. Their money, their business.

So there. :p

i dislike the v-rod because:

the body work feels flimsy
the clam shell speedo thing is plastic
the pipes are....i don't know what
radiator?
the headlight?
faux gas tank (wtf)

and as Indian Larry would say "there just isn't enough mechanicalness to it"

don't get me wrong, the motor and performance are great, and the frame is pretty cool, but it's jsut too sterile.

Harleys have been pushrod activated v-twin air cooled designs since 1903 with a very tiny few exceptions. anything else is not a Harley. The v rod is tinney, sounds like crap, has plastic and fake crap all over it. I would sooner buy a Vegas if traditional Harley went away, and it will! Hopefully not till I buy my last air cooled traditional twin and DIE!!!

Ride what you like and quite worrying about what other people think. Unfortunetly, that's not why a lot of Harley (and custom) owners ride what they ride - it's just the opposite - they ride them because of how they think it makes them look to other people or what other people think of what they ride. Fukkedup and more money than brains. Of course, that doesn't apply to anyone here. ;) :D

Why does it matter what other people like/dislike/love/hate? Ride whatever makes your liver quiver.

"Hate" is such a strong word. I don't like 'em for reasons others have stated, plus they're not built for sawed-off dwarfs like me. Can't reach the foot controls without feelin' like sumpin' painful ala Cirque de Soliel.
But if a Wethead is what rings your chimes, that's fine as frog hair by me.

When you ask what people don't like about sumpin', expect answers you may not like.

to answer the original question, i don't hate them i just think they are buttfuckin ugly from top to bottom. now if they would design the frame to help it look a little more traditional that would be a step in the right direction because the motor isn't too bad it's mainly the rest of the bike. like somebody else mentioned harley has to do something to stay alive in the future. ah fuckit i'll just stick to shovelheads or older :D

Yeah,What Green-Ghost said. You are" preaching to choir".They don't like sporties. They don't like V-rods.Fuk 'em ride what you like.Change is good as long as they don't totally phase out the tradional Harley.I can find something good about any bike made, because it's a bike, and I love bikes.V-Rods are different, sleek looking, modern ,are pretty fast and not over priced like some of the other Harley models.

I don't think this correct.
Personally I don't see why people hate radiators so much. Wouldn't you want your favorite bike to last longer? Well atleast in theory.
I've seen some cool custom v-rods.
It all comes down to what you like. To some people,v-rods and sporties aren't real Harleys.

The VR is simply the best bike HD ever built, hands down. Any disagreement is purely a waste of bandwith. Mechancially speaking nothing else they build is even in the same league. period.

As for looks, that's a different story. If you don't like the way it looks nothing is going to change your mind. Some people put catsup on their bologna, or watch professional wrestling, or listen to jazz, and so it's a matter of taste, don't like it..don't buy it.

As for it being a "real Harley" the only proof you need is my friggen' payment book! -yup, that's genuine!

I posted a reply earlier but it wasn't posted for some reason. I wanted to hear honest opinions, good or bad. the bike was well recieved by the press, just wondered about real harley owners. I like it for what it is, but hate the tank under the seat and its lack of versitility for 2, but i was single when I bought it so it didn't matter.

For fuks sake finish reading what the man wrote before you start trying to disprove him. He said few exceptions and all that has been brought up is one seems that he was %100 correct in the way he phrased it. O btw pretty much agree with everyone, V rods ok but too much like a snap together ricer. but i like my sporty and if ya dont like that, quote Dick Chaney "fuk yourself"

Won't find anything from me but adoration for the V-Rod. Great move H-D. Has brought many riders from other makes who wanted outstanding performance out of the box. New $$$ for Milwaukee versus trading $$$ with riders already loyal. Check out http://www.v-rodforums.com for a sampling of rabid owners.

Will find hesitant or resistant riders from all makes when the manufacturer introduces something new. Kinda defensive. See it with Ducati. See it with BMW. See it with Honda. See it with Buell. See it with H-D. I remember when the Deuce came out and there was angst from Softail Custom fans.

The V-Rod is just another branch on the family tree and many offspring will come over the years.

LOL Funniest response yet! :D :D

I gotta disagree with ya brianh (don't ya just love this country sometimes!) I like the emphasis on the frame personally. One of the things that I like about Ducati's for that matter, that exposed frame! But, to each their own!

Since I started getting into Harley's about the time the V-Rod came out, I'm probably less resistant as a result. If I had the money, I'd buy it as a second bike (well third, I want a Road Glide for my next one! :p )
