Hello and welcome from an ex-philly burber Dprintz. What model bike are you thinking of shock replacement for? I'm currently in the hunt for rear shock replacement for my 14 SG. Curious where this thread goes...

Interesting, I know there are a few different model Ohlins, And who might be the Ohlin dealer to talk to for input ? Any guidance...

I've installed Ohlins for a customer on three of his bikes. Amazing shocks, Howard was super helpful. For me, however, I can't justify the price.
I hear you on the price. Haven't called yet but I expect to have some sticker shock when I hear the figure...

I'm curious if the hand adjustable shocks on the SGS are more forgiving than the air shocks on the SG..

Got my $572 Ohlins in 4 days from Italy installed yesterday. Test drove last night. Over the top ride. It’s a different motorcycle. I hated to spend the bread but the end result was worth it. My gal and I are taking off for a couple of thousand miles this week and I can’t wait to feel the diff rolling the backroads fully loaded.
WPC, I'm interested to know what style shock and for what bike.. And who did you contact. Any info would be appreciated.

Just got off the phone with Howard at motorcyclemetal about building shocks for my SG. See where it goes after filling out the info about my typical riding style and gear. Not sure what it entails but will find out shortly..

I gather that most folks think it's pricier than they are willing to pay. Then I hear of folks customizing their rides and spending way more money on looking good verses riding and handling better. I guess I prefer to be more comfortable which extends riding time vrs looking good profiling around town.. Don't get me wrong, I like my bikes looking good. But I prefer them to ride better than they look..

I would think that no shock can completely eliminate hard bumps. After riding a rigid for many years I welcome any comfort that a seat and suspension will give me.

South Louisiana roads are notorious for bumps of all sizes. You can avoid some on a scooter, but it's impossible to miss all.

I'm just here for the beer.
After winter here the frost heaves seem to be at their worst. Eventually they settle down a bit.. hopefully.

His pricing on his website is there to show MSRP. If you call him he'll straight up tell you what your price is depending on what you're looking for. Sure he gives a discount if you belong to various forums. No problem with that.

When I called him I didn't have any connectivity to check it out online. We talked for a few and he explained what works the best for my situation. Once back I filled out the inquiry as to specifics on his website. Shortly after I received an invoice with the breakdown of costs. Decided on the entry level HD-022. which is the 13" vrs the standard 12" shocks on the street glide. Hopefully it will make a noticeable difference. His price was still more reasonable than anyone else I could find for the same shocks.
I had read numerous posts regarding his posturing, I got along with him just fine. Shared a few laughs in the process. Maybe I just caught him on a good day.

I just received my Ohlins from Howard. Hope to install them in the next day or so. I did appreciate the fact that he said if I had any issues with the install to give him a call at any reasonable hour of the day. Sure the factory wouldn't tell you that. Attitude or not, that's customer service..

There are numerous companies that make softail shocks. How good the are, don't know. What I'd like to know, my Streeglide has air shocks. In the manual it says to never lay them down, if doing so they need to be replaced. They do make air shocks for softails and those are horizontal. Is one oil filled and the softail just an air bladder?

Well I installed my Ohlins yesterday. Made some adjustments and definitely noticed a difference compared to the stock air shocks. After clocking some more miles I'll tweak them a little more. Haven't tried them riding two up yet.

I put Ohlins on the rear of my 2013 FLHX and love them...but they were expensive and I don't know if Progressive would have done the job equally well. All I know is you cannot go wrong with Ohlins, they preset the specs and they are easy to adjust as needed.
Which Olhins did you go with? Just curious..
