Sometimes one visualizes something that he wants to erase.

Please, make it go away!!!!! Arrrrg!

Ed, my man, get a grip, enough of the cyber make believe!!! Get out into the real world of the living and ride your bike or somthin, don't be scared, geessh dude ...

Oh, don't worry. The numbers are actually a very small percentage. Yes there are cranks with too much run out. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of them. But when you remember that there are perhaps a million twin cam motors it puts things back into proper perspective. 1% is my uneducated guess. Having been a victim of a twisted crank, I guess that makes me a 1%er. Oh yeah, I'm bad.

I wonder if there is an educated guess out there.:hystria:

And there it is. An admission. You think 1% is ok? Try working in a major engine manufacturer's quality department as I have, and tell the director that a 1% failure rate is acceptable. I promise you, that will be your last day. Let's see here, in 2006 Harley shipped about 350,000 bikes. At $3000 each to repair, and a 1% failure rate, that comes to about $10.5 million. Chump change, huh? By the way, we're not talking about flex, and we're not talking about wear, we're talking about run out bad enough to do damage, and we're talking the wheels scissoring.

Anxiously awaiting your next theory.

Pikeslayer, you seem to be as briight and gullible as turkey in a rain storm.:hystria:

Claydbal, tx for the tip, but sorry I'm not interested, I don't make it a habit getting advise from a used car salesman posing as a master tech.

Another useful post. Full of insults, but lacking in any useful information.

Please explain the gullible comment. If it's true, shouldn't take you long right?

I'm now thinking this wholesale attack on the TC96 Crank was started because the stock cranks will withstand upwards to 130-140tq plus and dont really need any working. Though when I do my 117 with Baisey hybrids I'm sure my builder will want to have my cranked worked, he said I did'nt need it with my current build and he is as always, RIGHT ON.
There we are the truth has been told, you have a builder who powders your bottom and burps you.:hystria: Why don't you man up and build it your self, maybe you'll learn a thing or two in the process.

I think someone needs to Xtract his head from his ass!!

dan baisley probably wouldnt touch those heads, not if he read the posts here. you think he would waste his talents on an idiot? and this builder who says not to worry about the stock crank is to be trusted with a quick revving 140/140 motor?

VERY nicely said!!!! LOL

Geeze, I can't wait til he misses a shift and comes back a cryin'!
"Waaa waaaa! I broke my scooter! Waaaa!"

Hard to believe.
The guy who takes his money to build his stuff,..... tells him what he wants to hear,...... And he believes it all (hook line & sinker),......
But the brothers on the board who gain nothing financially,..... he won't believe.

Wearing blinders mebbe?

And he calls me gullible. Pot, kettle, ahhh, you know the rest.

Sorry guys, but I have'nt time to play tick for tat with ya. I'm going riding on my hop-up, hot rod Harley, see-ya. :woohoo:

ps. For all you with twisted cranks, remember slower traffic stay to the right and keep the rubber side down, them being the tires, move over I'm coming through, suckers.

Just wondering how bad this crank problem is and the fix and if it is all years,i know of a lot of 96's here but there has been no problems so far that i know of ..do you have to replace the crank..This is the sixth Harley I've owned i would have thought the should have got a lot better not worse...i do love this 2008 Fat Bob the bike is a cracker

Check with your dealers service desk and ask them how many claims for "crank problem"

Check out Latus Harley Davidson forum for crank related issues for the tc96

Talk and ask other riders you know.

Get the facts from industry experts regarding the specfics of known tc96 crank failures and ask them WHAT WAS THE FAILURE AND WHY....(specfics)....if they cannot or will not answer that then move on to someone who can, their out there.:coffee:

Lastly watch out for the fast talkin sales guy, you know the "Con Men" this industry has many, they will try to scare you out of your hard earned money and probably know very little about cranks except maybe the type of crank some smoke.:cya:

I would like to add as an example, this thread, where many have fallen folly to the Land Sharks feeding grounds, the internet.

When I was having my bike tuned I was talking with the guy tuning it about crank issues. He had replaced several cranks from 110's and a some out of the 96" engines also, this was at a Harley Dealer. So if you talk to the right person you just might get the straight scoop.

I've heard the sayings "You can't believe everything you read on the internet". Damnedest thing is a good deal of what I've read has been spot on.

well to support both sides of this debate.
my dealer(one of the three owners) who likes to go fast.
we have had this conversation several times.
He had a 113ci 117/121 that scissored the crank. of course I was standing in the service area when he brought it in (sounded like rods knocking) so no lying about that one.
he said they have only had two others scissor a 96 and a 110. (COUSTOMERS BIKES). so it does happen to stock bikes as well as big builds. but maybe not as frequent as some would think.
He rode my bike the other day and when returning he said BE CARFULL! It feels much like my 113 did as far as power.
so not all dealers are in the dark on this subject.
