I have used 2 sets of there 'S' style TC lifters and had 0 problems. I used a set of there standard 2313 lifters one time and they would not hold oil psi (ticking) and had to change them out for stock HD lifters. I think that there higher end lifters are (S & SE) are OK for the price. There are better lifters out there IMO but the price goes up as the makers are very proud of them.

 

I'm considering the Gaterman lifters myself. $150 for a set.

 

The Gatermans are a proven product and work well. They can be had for less.

 

Don do Gaterman's require using adjustable pushrods? To date I have preferred the "perfect fit" push rods but have been using HD lifters.

 

The length and pushrod cup is in the stock location, that said I would use quality rigid adjustables on any performance application or special perfect fits made by measuring test rods from a mock up.

Best is a broad pallet to cover. Answer usually is "depends".
For the mild builds <.6 lift a lot of times the SE tapers are adequate. For the all out stuff I have Smiths make me customs based on the application the length, wall, and width vary.

 

Just did a quick search, hard to believe the Smith's are cheaper than S/E.

 

I agree with Don. The Gaterman's are my go to lifter in my shop. I personally like the SE tapered pushrods but many shops prefer the Smiths.

 

And then to adjust them you buy the lower tubes and clips then they are not cheaper. Their "easy" install rods are not that, hard is a better way to describe the adjustment. If it is Smiths I don't go with easy or quick anything. The least amount of exposed adjuster, most rigid choice is best and those drop in from the top only or for the less experienced guy the SE starts to look better. I do not use any Smiths 3/8" rods as the Cranes are less money and just as good.
They work but will need the tubes and clips from HD too $60 last time I checked, or thereabouts.

Confused now? Not what I am trying to do but high lift = rigid high quality pushrods that are not "easy" or the lower spring pressure lighter valve train can use a 3/8" adjustable from SE or Crane. There are probably a hundred others but these have always worked well for me.
