I would go with:

BJ = FLST / FLSTC

L = 1340 EVO

X = 1999

031685 = production number

I am having the same issue 10 digit motor number every where i look says does not exist it is motor number GGLV318838 thanks for any help i know this is an old thread
GG = FXDS - CON (Dyna Convertible)

L = 1340 EVO

V = 1997 model year

What about FV47641967
I don't find a "FV" model designation. Perhaps that is a "W"? If so, then it is:

FW = FLHR Shrine

4 = 1584 ESPFI (TC 96)

7 = 2007

If this doesn't seem right then double check on the first 2 characters.

"FV" comes up as a M8 FLHT Electra Glide Standard.
Agreed. I found these newer model designations and added them to what I have stored.

So, the problem with this being a number for a M8 EG is that the next 2 digits which denote the engine type and year of manufacture should be letters instead of numbers. The "4" and the "7" mean nothing with the "FV".

Also, I'm not familiar with a 121r. I know HD made a 120 and a 120R years ago but they were never supplied in any factory models. At least I don't know of any VIN digits that would reflect this. Those were Twin Cam engines so that would make no sense in an M8 model anyway. I don't find any VIN codes for 120, 120R, or 121r.

Maybe we could tell more from a few pictures of the rest of the bike and engine. Is the engine supposedly in the original frame? Can we get a picture of the full VIN?

BVB4066523 I just bought an 04 softail today and the guy I bought it from said something about a performance motor and it has an s&s air filter cover on it. This is my first Harley and I have absolutely no idea what I’m looking at
BV = FXSTI (Softail Standard w/EFI)

B = 1450 Fuel Injected Counterbalanced Twin Cam (88 ci)

4 = 2004

Everybody says there is something special about the bike they are selling. What is a performance motor? Could mean low performance.

If the engine is an S&S engine then their logo would be on the side of the heads. If that number you posted came from that engine then it is not an S&S engine. There is no telling what kind of parts have been changed inside the engine nor whether the changes made things better or worse.
