dont know about your codes, but my wifes sportster had a similar problem. when you got up to about 20mph the speedo would turn off. code in the speedo said over voltage.didnt know what that meant, but finally put a volt meter on battery. when i would rev engine up it would go over 16 volts and shut off speedo.
the voltage regulator was bad.

Regulator is bad, change it.
on some of the early 2000 bikes oil from the primary would seep into the wire casing of the wires conecting to the regulator from the stator and fill the plug, shorting out the regulator.
make sure there is no oil in that plug.
Un plug it and make sure both ends are hanging down and let it sit for a few min to see if oil starts dripping from the plug. if you do get oil you have two options
1. Change the stator
2. check and clean the plug before every ride, if it has been sitting for a long time it is even more likely to build up oil

ok thanks for the info. im also having surging it is most noticeable in 4th gear about 50mph. i had one harley tech say it was the fuel running from the regulator to the quick disconnect or it was the one that ran from the fuel pump to the regulator not sure. it cleared up for alittle bit it may have solved that prob. but im still having an issue anything will be helpful.
