http://www.generac.com/ Generators are Made in USA. I was talking to a friend in the RV/Camper business and he just picked up the Generac line. He said he only sells them because they are manufactured here is USA. I asked if we assemble them? He said all the parts were designed and made in USA. The engines, controls and generators. I did a little research and it certainly seems he is right.

I was happy to find that out since I own a Generac and it has served me well.

The small units may be made here, but I work on big Generators for a living (some hold 150 gallons of oil), and they have a majority of foreign parts. Daewoo, Hino, Mitsubishi engines, they used to use FIAT engines for some of their 12kW units. Other times they use Ford or GM industrial engines.

Onan used to be made here, but they have been bought out by Cummins, and became part of Cummins Power Generation. Cummins also bought AVK from the UK and the alternator half is now usually from the UK.

I believe that Kohler is still designed and made in the USA, as is CAT for the most part.

One thing that amazes me is that Kohler, Generac and Marathon are from Wisconsin, CAT is based in Illinois, and Onan used to be based in Minnesota. Seems like all of the US generator production companies were based in a relatively small area.

I used to work on generators myself. The larger ones used just about any engine that would fit the specs for the building it was going in (1.5 HP per KW).
Used to love changing oil on them. 150 gallons took almost the whole day. Hell, the air cleaners held 5 qts.

Generac was advertising for people, doing job fairs. Shows how you buy American it employees people. Now those folks will have more money to spend, and trickles down.

People with good jobs build new homes, buy cars, ect.

Generators are one of those things I think about buying, and probably won't until after I need it.
