Does someone here have the Electrical Diagnostic manual for an 03 Softail? I need the procedures for retrieving codes and also the codes designations. And, before someone says "do a search"...i tried that and the search feature is not working. Would appreciate any help on this. My check engine light started coming on but i don't have the electrical manual.

This is from memory, but I believe it is right:

1) Run switch in off
2) Ignition switch - on-off-on-off-on
3) Left turn signal twice - will get 2 flashes
4) Right turn signal once - 1 flash
5) Right turn signal once - 2 flashes
6) Right turn signal once - 3 flashes
7) Left turn signal once - codes will start flashing, first digit, 1/2 second, 2nd digit, 2 seconds, next code
8) hold left turn signal to clear codes - 2 flashes

If you post the codes here I'll look them up for you.

Thanks for the post. I had a pinched wire on my tach that caused it to go crazy and probably triggered the code. I didn't check the code but the light is no longer coming on. Since all is well now i'm just going to wait on the electrical manual, which should be here next week.

I just came across this post, I'm having trouble with my head light and brake light. My high beam dash light is on permanently, but my head light won't turn on with the hi/low beam light switch in either position, and my rear brake light won't engage with the rear brakes, but it does with the front brake lever. I tried to look up the codes using the method above and I got 2 flashes, then 1 flash. Anyone know if/what code that could be, does it have to do with my current problem?

Specific year/model of bike makes a difference when getting codes. If yours is not same as original post the methods are likely different. HD keeps changing how to get codes as they upgrade. Best way is to get Electrical Diagnostics manual for your specific model which is very useful to troubleshoot.

I doubt the lighting issue you describe would throw a code...I would check wiring connections for grounds or worn insulation. Inspect, clean all connections, apply di-electric grease and torque properly. Look for areas where insulation could be worn away by vibration. I had a weird headlight issue years ago...found chaffed insulation inside headlight housing that was grounding out where mounting bolt poked through housing. Electrical tape and a zip tie and it's been good for over 10 years.

The bike is an 03 night train, so it is the same. I haven't had time to go into it too deep, but everything was functioning normally until I changed the right front turn indicator. The signal had a cracked housing, so I just switched it out.

I think the code is unrelated, I think it's from the MAP sensor. All of the fuses are intact, the bike starts just fine, I just don't have a head light or rear control brake light.
