Here is an e-mail I just got from a new Amsoil customer.

George just want to let you know that I had Lucas 50wt syn in my engine. When getting hot lifters where more noisey than the Harley 20w-50.

I put the amsoil 60wt in and rode home from work in bumper to bumper traffic. (87deg)Rode the white line for about 20 miles and engine is quiet as a church mouse.
Just want to say thank you
Nick

question for cata

I have a 2009 Ultra classic and run 20w50 amsoil in all 3 holes. Have not considered 60wt. I have valve train noise no matter what oil wt I use but have not tried that heavy of an oil. I guess summer would be ok but do you run it in the winter, even though you are in Florida it does not get that cold but here in North Carolina it does sometimes get cold. Just wondering.

forace2009,
I run it all year long. Winters get cold here, But not as where you are. Are you sure it's valve train noise ?? I had a 2009 and 2010 touring bikes and both were very noisey, comansary sprokets was making the noise on my bikes.. Amsoil didn't have the 60w then or I wasn't aware.. To try.. Some noises are hard to pinpoint.. Good luck and give it a try, 60w amsoil..also I use the 60w in both my bikes and my wife's..evo

Here in North Texas, summer days are rarely below 100 degrees so I just changed to Amsoil 60w. It's already in the 90s and HD recommends 60w oil above 80 degrees and who am I to argue. I'd be happy with Mobil 1 too but they don't make a 60w bike oil.

However I am using syn gear oil in the tranny and syn ATF in the primary.

Your oil is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Thanks for your business. I would like to get more bikers on the 60 weight, especially those that seem to worry about noise in the valve train when using some synthetics. This oil makes them run nice and quiet and also brings oil temp down a little more.

60 wt

George, here is some of my oil trials,
09 SG 103 stage 4 kit( older kit with bigger valves and SE260 cam) now swapped cam for SE263E
used SE semi syn- high oil temps and smelled bad like hot was not sold on that
Amsoil MCV20W50- lower oil temps easy start up, but Valve train got noisier they are already loud with that cam and SE race lifters etc.
Amsoil Dominator 15W50 - easy start quicker oil pressure, smoothest running revved nice and easy no complaints just concerned how long to run it! and valve noise was better than MCV! just again no idea how long it holds up?
Amsoil SAE60 - starts up ok even at 70 degrees I just let idle to warm up, runs about 10-12 degrees cooler than both amsoil products above! over 25 cooler than SE Semi Syn!
valve train seems quiter not a huge difference but better than all before! oil pressure is 3-5 psi higher at idle and running down the road, I have the new SE cam plate and high pressure pump, hot down the road like 43 PSI and idle like 13-17 give or take!
any idea on Dominator VS 60 am I doing the right thing here as the Dominator is loaded with Zinc and other goodies and friction fighters that made it idle smooth and rev easy
60 seems better for valve noise and temp is it as good with other additives

Brett, thanks for taking the time to post your findings. When using the dominator oil there is no recommendations as it is an all out designed racing oil with a bunch of friction modifiers to extract every possible HP out of the engine. I have seen guys go over 3,000 with it in HD's and the UOA still showed it could go much further. As far as phosporus and zinc levels go it is not much higher than our 60 weight or 20w 50 as these products are really loaded with it also. Let me know if you have any more questions.
