Just got back from vacation and decided to go for a ride this morning and noticed a loud clicking sound.Took a hose and determined it was coming form the rear pushrod. The Smith Bros pushrod had some how loosened itself.Did apply green threadlock when I first installed the lifters and pushrods last winter.Might want to check when you have spare time.

If in fact the nut was loose it probably was not tightened properly to begin with. The loctite will be ineffective if the threads have any oil or grease present also jst an fyi
I do not loctite pushrods and never have had one come loose, unless the rod was tight ad there were other problems in the valve train.

What other problems could it be in the valve train to give slack between the lifter and rocker. The nut was not loose just assumed the threads worked themselves up.Since adjustment, the motor sounds great.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.Find it odd that after a weeks vacation the bike starts-up with a loud clicking noise. This is something that would have increased in sound through time. Not trying to beat a dead horse but its odd the nut on the rod was not loose.Would the rod be over adjusted now because I do observe more threads?

I had one instance of a Crane adjustable pushrod loosening up on me. I'm really sure the locknut was tight. However, about 2 miles into a short test ride, started hearing some tapping. Then started losing power. Got the bike back (barely) and checked - sure enough the rear intake pushrod had loosened up. Never happened before or since. Tappets were brand new Crane units.

When I did my build, I stayed with the stock rods. Seems there are very few problems with adjustable, but more then stock. Also cheaper to stay stock. Someday, will probably need to get into cam chest, and will buy them

The Crane rods have 3/8" flats on the rod ends and the jam nut for tightening. These are pretty small for you to get a lot of torque developed for tightening. One of mine came loose when first installed. I then used the tightest fitting highest quality wrenches I could find in my tool box and they tightened up fine. I found that my lower quality wrenches, even forged lower quality wrenches would develop groves on the wrenching surfaces when really thightened. Then the wrench would be looser for the next tightening...no Loctite used..
