I ride a 2004 Electra Glide Standard (FLHT)
I have a problem that I’m hoping I can track down and fix myself.
The other day, I drove about a block down the road when I realized that my speedometer and tachometer were not moving. Also the small red light that resembles a key (located next to the odometer) was lit. I drove back home, checked the fuses to find the accessory fuse had blown.
I replaced the fuse and the speedometer and tachometer are working again.
However, when I turn the ignition (whether I start the bike or not); the small red light that resembles a key lights up for about 5 seconds and goes out. Then after about 5 seconds the light comes back on and remains lit for about 15 seconds and goes out. As I drive off, I am hoping I’ll not lose my speedo and tach.
I suspect the problem may be the ignition switch as it has been somewhat “tricky”. By that I mean, sometimes it doesn’t seem to actually engage when I turn it to the on position. I think if it is the ignition switch, it will be a real pain in the neck to replace it. Although it doesn’t seem like it would be a very expensive part to replace.
Has anyone experienced anything like this, or heard of this? Thanks in advance for any help.
Note: when I say “lose my speedo”, I mean my speedometer.
I would never leave the house in a speedo!
