Milwaukie Troopers - great fit and quality - and Milwaukie makes a number of other great leather products

I have a set of Redwing Ropers that I've had since 1990. 14 years old for those of us too drunk to count. I had to use a calculator... Had I taken better care of them I'm sure they would be in good shape still but they have never been touched by anything but Kiwi polish and a few new soles and heels. They are just about done. My Justin Ropers are just 2 years old and are not holding up nearly as well. I'm getting a new set of Redwings very soon.

I walk mine (type 2233) for ~9 yrs now. Got them in Singapore for $80.
What always amazes me is the fact that when these boots get soaking wet that on the next morning they`re almost dry again.
Last month I played with the idea to get exact the same pair again....before they cease this production line and offering some femine girlie bs style (you never know)
1. You MUST visit the store so they can meassure your size (I can`t remember my redwingsize grrrr and one Seattle shop may sell em over the www...)
2.Only one joint in germany sells this type 2233. It´s some 4 hrs from here and that bastard is asking for $250

For what its worth. I have two pair of redwing, the first pair are 7 years old and feel as good as the day I bought them but need new soles. The second pair has the composite toe for safety and I HATE them. I have them for Hazmat work and put the zipper kit in. They wear badly against my little toe and I also had arch support issues. I used a pair of the half length gel inserts to fix the arch but toes still hurt. I use them to ride a good bit but tough on the feet after a long day. These are the ones that look like jump boots...overall I do like redwings and would recommend them without the hard toe

There was a review of Red Wing boots in a magazine a couple of months ago, and how they worked well as bike boots and for walking around. Does anybody know which model they are, or which mag/month the article was in? Thanks.

Redwings rock! As if another endorsement was needed.

Friend of mine had a pair of boots with steel toes, hated 'em, put 'em in the closet for about 2 years. (I guess he didn't need them for work anymore). He finally called a shoe repair shop, asked if anything could be done about it. $10, he removed the steel toes, now he loves the darn things.

boots

the mag. was the july 2004 issue of american iron, and the boots were the engineer boot. style # 968. I have those boots and love them. The only complaint I have with them is as the artical stated They make your white socks black. I went out and bought black socks just for the boots. Also the boots are union made in america. can't go wrong.

I bought the Red Wing Hiker #6680 with the tech toe ... (non metallic) waterproof ... about a 7" high black lace up boot about three weeks ago. Wore them to Sturgis. Only other footwear I had was sandals. Love 'em. I was in some down pours and they really did well.

I have had a pair of redwing steel toe boots since 1991, resoled once, and am in the process of having resoled a second time now. This is the only boot or shoe I have not had to replace. Definately worth the money, and they feel great.

But I recommend if you are getting your first pair to go into a shop and be fitted for em.

I purchased a pair of redwings gortex boots two years ago. I wear them always when I ride. The fit perfect, they repel water, they are comfortable and I have had nothing but good luck with them. Sure they cost big bucks but if it the only boot you can find to fit a 10.5 B then that is what you do.

This is an old thread. the original post asking which magazine, was from 2003 :D

Can't go wrong with the RedWings!

I have been wearing RedWings for 20-plus years and have found nothing to compare with them. I am heavy (225lbs) with a size 7 1/2 foot and am on concrete a lot. My steel-toe Pecos model RedWings last me from 1 1/2 to 2 years before the soles wear out. I wear em 6 days a week, for work, for riding, pretty much anything I do. They make some with a harder sole that will last longer, but they are not as easy on the feet. I have a high instep and am hard to fit, but they fit good. Red Wings are HELL to break in, but I have a trick. I run them full of water, dump em out, put on a pair of thick cotton work socks and wear em till they are dry. That will break em in quicker than sweating them in. They have enough oil in the treating process that it doesn't hurt them and usually a new pair will stain your socks anyway for a while. I am looking forward to the new line coming out, might buy the engineer style if they have it in steel toe.

Most comfortable shoes I own....

I've been thru lots of boots, but I found the Red Wing Pecos steel toe years ago and now on my third pair. Third pair not because they aren't durable, but the 1st just couldn't take the salt water (hazzard of the job) day in and day out at the command I was at.

The Pecos look like plain western style "roper" boots and are by far the most comfortable shoes I own. As stated above, a little snug when brand new, but like TTT said, if you get them wet and wear them dry for a day, they'll give just enough to fit like a glove. Have walked tons of miles in them (wear with jeans on liberty) and have had more gripes with sneakers/running shoes. If anyone orders them online (I personally haven't), go to a shoe store and measure your foot with one of those silver thingies. The sizes from Red Wing are dead on and they seem to have excellent quality control for everything including sizing.

Now have 2 pair, 1 that is about 4 years old that I use for general shate kicking and riding most of the time. 2nd pair shined and look like patent leather I wear to work (not actually per the uniform reg but look and feel awesome and generally, I don't get screwed with too much as a Senior Chief :D ).

awesome comfort

my wife bidded on ebay for some steel toe size 12 eee red wing boots for me. i have the harley boots, a pair of timberland waterproof boots as well. no compairison. the red wings are far more comfortable. i don't wear them riding, i save the harley boots for that, you see where i work we are allowed 1 pair of boots a year off of the safety shoe truck. they carry the harley boots so me and my fellow hd riding buddies at work are spoiled in that regard. i wear the redwings with jeans, or khaki pants. they are the redish brown color. i just wipe em' down with the finish 2001 spray, which can also be used on leather, before we go. i think are final winning bid was something like 57 dollars including shipping, brand new in the box with all the tags.
