It's my understanding you have the 3.37:1 gearing. Do any of you run the interstate at 80mph? Is the bike buzzy? What's your rpm?

Thanks

My 01 RG runs great up there. Where I live, not many opportunities to run that speed but I usually take a road trip every summer, crossed ID, MT, WY, SD and MN many times running 85-90 most of the way, the milage is not too good for sure especially if it's windy. I just crank up the stereo, kick my feet out in the gyno position and try to stay awake! Only problem is that the cruise control won't operate very well form about the low 80's

I have an '00 Ultra I bought used this year. I rode 80-85 most of the day coming back from Sturgis this year. It rode very well. I did not notice any buzzing at all. Of course, I traded in a sportster for the Ultra so the Sturgis ride was incredible by comparison. I do not remember the tach figgures, but the upper 3's sound right.

The 3.37:1 ratio was only used on 99-01 EFI FLT bikes. Carbed bikes had the 3.16:1 ratio. Never heard any of the guys I ride with that have 3.37:1 ever complain about it. In fact, some of the carbed guys or 02 and later models have switched to it.
I've run the 3.15s, the 3.37, 3.42 and now the 3.57 combos. Here's the diff at 80mph

At 80mph
3.15 - 3400
3.37 - 3650
3.42 - 3700
3.57 - 3900

A lot of the buzzing and wondering if your bike is coming apart has to do with what you have in your bike. FrankenKing LOVES the 3.57 with its build. It wants the RPM and this helps it out. If there was a 6th gear, the bike would not be as fun to ride. I've run 80mph with all of these gears in the same bike over the years. I have to say it really depends on the build.

With that said: EdY - good to see you. You're right, I don't know anybody who has 3.37s worried about RPMs. In fact the Evo bikes had 3.37s in most model years of the Baggers. My friend has a 1990 80 stock bagger with 3.37s and loves it.

FLHR don't know ratio, I cruise great at 85. After 75 gas mileage drops to upper 30s. Only complaint I have is gutless at those speeds. But can cruise all day like that.

My 00" Ultra cruises at about 32-3300 rpms at 80-85 I have the 3.37 gearing but I have done a lot of work to the motor...It does not get "squirrley" til you hit about 110...as for the noise...I am running TH, a TW6HG cam and roller Rockers so noise is just a given.
