Approx. how many miles do you get on your Fat Boy? I have a LED gas gage on mine, and it is so touchy, I fill up bike and go 20 miles and it has dropped down 2 or three lights, the solid red light comes on around 140 miles? And then I get gas and it only takes approx. two gallons! This is a headache. and also for some reason with having this LED gage, my light on my dash to show low fuel does not come on? Should I switch this back to a standard gas gage?

How long have you had your LED fuel gauge installed as a replacement?

The 6 Shooter LED gauge that I installed approx. 3 years ago became less sensitive after around 6 fill-ups, if that makes sense. I don't know why it did this, but it did. It drops steadily through the first 3 gallons and then becomes constant red. The flashing red doesn't start now until around 150 miles into a tank. I then start searching for a pump.

I wouldn't switch if I were you, and here's my 2 cents worth of suggestion: any fuel gauge is only decoration; continue to use your odometer/tripmeter for the most accurate fuel indicator after having calculated your average mpg.

The Harley gas tanks are so small, and not a uniform rectangular shape. It's really tough to get the float inside of there in the right place to give accurate readings. You can go in there and bend that rod some and it will help, but it's a huge pain in the butt.

The stock gas gauge on my Electra Glide isn't all that great either, but it's the opposite of yours. Mine stays way up at the full mark for a long time, then plummets down really fast as I'm getting low.

Like Scrubs says, I just use the trip meter on my odometer. I usually fill up around 180 mile mark.

I was lucky if I got 90 days out of mine. Bought it for the pretty blue lights (and the flush mount of course). All it did was reinforce the HD theory.

I can get 180-210 miles out of my Deuce' tank. I just reset the trip meter when I gas up. It's a habit, I do it in my Caddy as well.

I also reset my trip each time I fuel up,, at around 150 miles the solid red light has been coming on, and I get gas then,, I havent pressed my luck to see when the flashing red light comes on or wait til I run out of gas,,lol

I also have noticed that the low fuel light that normally would come on in the dash, does not come on? I heard that because of the LED gauge the low fuel light in the dash no longer works? Is this true, or does the LED gauge cause this not too work?

It is true that the idiot light on the speedo console is inoperative when an LED gauge is installed. One other thing, the flashing red LED is only letting you know that you have reached low (not lowest) fuel level, and that is when a carbed bike would normally need to switch to reserve. EFI bikes don't have a reserve, so...

...you probably still have a little more than a gallon left in an EFI Fat Boy's tank on flashing red. Like I said above, mine starts flashing at about 150miles into a tankful, and I will confidently go another 30 miles before I need to fill 'er up. The most fuel I've ever had to pump was 4.6 gals, and I wasn't all that nervous about pushing that far. Never ran it out of gas, and I hope to keep that trend.

all this seems way to complicated and expensive. I use my trip odometer and look for gas @150 miles - usually takes about 3.5 gal.

On my '02 FLSTF with a HSR42 jetted for performance, 95" build and the majority of my riding at 70+mph, mpg ain't so great. I tend to hit reserve at about 130 miles. I make a point of stopping as I pass 100-110 miles. I average right at 30mpg.

Agreed on the fuel gauge, I don't even look at it. Trip odometer is the safe thing to watch.
