Hey boatnut good the hear your getting things back together, the remote filter looks great.
Launching these big inch machines no matter the rear tire size is all about practice, practice. The 155" with stock rear tire at first was a handful. Now with everything dailed in it launces hard.A little too muck wick in first or second gear it's up in smoke, just dail it back, let it hook, roll it back on,aim it!
Next tire will be a Car Radial! Problem solved!

Progress update

Hi guys, we are getting REAL close now. Waiting on a couple gaskets and she should be going back together this weekend...
Heads back from Baisley, using his modded comp releases and pushrods, had the rocker geometry altered, pro-street porting, 2.106 intake valves, cc'd to match the T-man pistons giving 11.2-1 static, and had Diamond Cut bling em up...

Fairly confident Dean will have her running tomorrow...

It lives

AT LAST.... She is back together. Have 200 miles on it. IST ignition was very obvious in first 100 miles? You could actually feel it "hunting". Totally killed anything over 3,500rpm.Used 10/40 oil for break in. Theory being wanted oil delivered real quick. All good but did cause some carry over through filter. Changed out at 50 miles. Using a KP engineering filter. That is some scary stuff you find in the filter the first time eh? Never done that first change before, if I hadn't been warned I'd swear it was self destructing lol...
Went with 10/40 again. Changed again at 150 miles. This time went to 20/50.
Different motor.... Everything got real quiet, oil pressure increased, oil temp reduced, all good. Feel that it was a good thing to use the thinner oil to start, maybe just a fantasy but believe that it got where it was needed sooner.....
So today I started to give it a little more than 1/2 throttle. HOLY CR@P batman!! The IST is obviously "searching" for the upper end of it's advance curve now. At half throttle this beast would eat my stock JIMS 131 for breakfast. I'm talking legit, no BS, shifting into third when I hit 4,500, to break the tire loose at 55 mph !!! This is a 2001Road King with my 225lbs sittin on it. I just finished hooking up the nitrous system that Dean plumbed in so nicely. I have left the electrical side unhooked . I just might die before my time if I actually hit that button.
Dean had it on the dyno after initial heat cycling and set the afr slightly rich. Only ran 1/3-1/2 throttle runs with lots of cool down between. Hit over 100trq sae at half throttle at 3,000. Back on dyno tomorrow ( I should have approx 4-500 miles by then) to set up for trip.
About to leave on a road trip to Alberta on Thursday. Going to hook up with the Camrose/Drumheller guys I ride with every summer. When I get back will switch to synthetic and get Dean to tune her for HP....
I will post dyno sheets after get back and do the final tune.

Wow....I only have one question- Why did you leave the JIM'S 131 badges on the heads? That's false advertising! :redrolf:

Head badges

Wow....I only have one question- Why did you leave the JIM'S 131 badges on the heads? That's false advertising! :redrolf:
I agree, however, they are actually etched in to the head, not a removable badge. Have ordered some new tags to attach on top...

I'd be real interested in your oil temps and fuel economy when the bike is broken in and tuned. I'm hoping you will share that with us as it may help others in the future. Thanks for keeping us informed, it really sounds like a great build and I confess I'm jealous!

Oil temps and economy and Pingel

Thanks guys. Just returned from road trip of approx 1,000 miles. Started out running pretty warm and getting 25mpg. The swingarm bushing kit from Howard at motorcyclemetal.com introduced quite a bit of vibration, but, just like Howard said, 500-700 miles later that just about completely went away. By end of trip, cruising at 70 mph in sixth gives me 2900rpm and 39 mpg. Oil temp runs at 190 deg, 35-37psi on hwy with ambient temp of 70 degrees and up to 215 in city.
The front end cartridges from Works transformed the suspension. Amazing.... corners that I would have been dragging the boards in and inducing a major ass pucker at 70mph I can now take and not even feel like I'm cornering, let alone pushing it. I am so impressed I have ordered the matching rear shocks to replace the Progressive 940's I am running.
Did have a few issues come up on trip but Dean is all over looking after these for me.
Once again, got to say that he is THE MAN to deal with in my area. Will be getting it on dyno for final tweaking real soon and will post. I can tell you Dean built a 117 at same time as mine. It went 140+ in HP and Trq......
TXCHOP.... Yeah, still like the shifter. I haven't actually used it yet with the new motor. Have to install yet another kill module for the nitrous so will be playing with that soon.

Jims 131

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I now honestly think that all the excessive heat my rear tire has been exposed to, by multiple tuning sessions, has hardened or altered the tire's composition. After searching all of the major tire manufacturer's websites, looking for a suitable tire, I came across many warnings about the effects on tires from dyno tuning. My last tune alone lasted eight hours. Tire temp. readings were taken during the run, and on many occasions we had to let it cool down. I don't blame anyone, it just makes me wonder, because other guys are running similar power, and they are lifting the front wheel. My bike acts like it is on grease up to about thirty mph. I will let you know how it acts with a new tire. I may even try another Dunlop 407.
It is no fun having your front end come up un-expectantly. The wife has a tendency of getting a little Pi$$ed Off. I got :spank: :hystria:

Just glad I did not tear off the low ride fender. :coffee:

Nos

Hey COWBOY, the nitrous is on, plumbed but not hooked up on the electrical side. I tend to go a little over the top with most things I do and I'm thinking it was just not needed lol.... However, I will be finishing up the install within the next few weeks and have her ready for the Sturgis North ride with my buds. With the skinny 150 on the rear there is no way I could get traction with the spray at anything less than 60-70mph? (Can't give full throttle now at 50-55mph without using up that nice Metz 880). I'm thinking it will stay on the bike, seeing it's there now, but rarely get used on the street.
Last year there was a Viper that I had fun with rolling on at approx 60mph up to 80mph. Thinking this is when it will get used, ie, rarely.
BAD DISP.... Yeah, the first time that happened to me, thankfully I was riding solo. I didn't want to get back on with me for a while!! lol...
Got to say though that the Works cartridges make the landing a whole lot better experience...
Should get bike back next few days, will put some more time on it and then have Dean do final tune. Not going to tune for absolute max, pinned, all out 100% throttle peak HP. Going to request it's ok to leave a little on table if it improves MPG and general rideability etc.
Seeing as I'm running a carb (Mik48) and an IST ignition not a whole lot that Dean can really do... Pilot/main/needle/needle position. The IST ignition seems to have settled in and quit "hunting". I've read/been told it might be costing 2-5HP/TRQ peak on the dyno. I'm willing to give that up for the ability to not have to worry about pinging/detonation when I can't get 94 octane fuel.
