Obligatory quarterly bump to hopefully save someone..

As the title says...

Jims 131

Sad story.. just better off to buy another brand of crate engine.
Sounds like the same general situation that i went through with my 124, right Steve? I agree, just get the new crate engine and be done with it.

Phil

I am in the process of installing the S&S 124 +07 crate engine in a bike now due to a rev perf 107 cylinder / head package that went WAAAAAAYYYY south.. Nothing to work with really.. Starting over at this point with a new engine..

This thread is still alive? I thought I was the only one who didn't have a life. F'n-A! :dh:

JIMS 131 will beat out a 120R. JIMS struggled with the first edition of engines but all is well now.

Don't let the ghost screw with you like that. Get JIMS it has a better thicker case, more cubes, more torque, etc. The motor is okay nowadays. Problem solved.

That's like saying don't buy Harley because they leak oil. Right? Problem solved decades ago.

People will have a problem with any product on occasion. Hell, I had a problem with my ex-wife, should I stop doing other chicks? I think not...

In my book Jims had one shot, they screwed the OP so they don't get chance with me. I wouldn't hit a dead dog in the ass with a Jims engine. Will the 131 Jims beat a 120R, I sure hope so, it has 11 cubes on it the 120. Will the 120R go more trouble free miles than the Jims, I think so.

FWIW If I was in the market for a really large engine I wouldn't piss with the little 131 from Jims, I'd be going with the 145 from S&S.

Well if it was only me that took it in a sensitive orifice from Jims, they would have had "one shot". Reality is there were/are many many more of "us" but few actually went public with the story.
Maybe they have fixed the problem. No matter, there is no fixing the attitude and complete lack of customer service.
Relatively big ticket items should come with a certain amount of caring about the net outcome for the customer.
No, not a "nanny" warranty/kiss your ass coz you bought something from me kind of thing, just a basic willingness to stand up and look after a customer who has done everything right and your product grenades because of a manufacturing/design issue thing. Jims basically gave me the finger. They will NEVER get another dollar from me.
I love that this thread seems to continually get revived and get a great feeling when it cost's them yet another sale.

You can't win the race if you don't FINISH the race... A reliable 120 beats a broken 131 every time. A motor in the frame goes faster than a motor on the bench.

I am the master of stating the obvious...

What they did or didn't do for you was just piss poor customer service on their part. When I see a company mistreat someone I don't do business with them either, I also make it a point to pass the word.

Funny thing is I met Jim Thiessen on a 4 day trail ride 18 years ago. This was during the Laughlin River Run and Jim said he would much rather be on horseback than at that event. And after attending the 2011 River Run, I agree with him. I liked him.

Hey blokes this is an old thread unfortunately i have bought a jims 131 it dosent owe me much 6k but it could be too much if i have a lemon it has new feuling cams and chain but im just wondering if anyone knows engine numbers where they fixed all the faults thanks
