Years ago I used to do spit insurance. I have been offered it in years. I haven't tried either. I like not having to worry about when I can ride. Some places probably still offer it.

I have state farm with multi-line discounts and pay only 246.00/ year For full insurance that will cover whats in my bags and all accessories. I was told to take pictures to document changes and additions and keep receipts for purchases. $500.00 deductible and its covered all year.

 

I pay $700.00 a year for full coverage on all three bikes with 250 deductible.

Most companies charge an annual rate, but it's made up of different coverage costs in the various months. Therrefore, they claim you're getting the benefit of split insurance, ithout the hassle. Of course if you cancel in the fall, your refund will be les than you expect too. (most of the premium goes to pay for the summer months).

I live in Ohio and have Allstate insurance. They allow me to reduce my coverage to fire and theft when I put my bike away for the winter. The savings is worth the hassle.

HAHA, I know sooner said that and then read your post. 450? come to
tax-a-chusetts and you would be paying closer to 1,450 + an exise tax just so you can park it in your already taxed driveway or garage.

If I could pay 450 a year for insurance on my bike I'd have two, maybe 3 on the road lol

I pay $272.26 for full coverage with a $250 collision deductable and a $100 comprehensive deductable, this is with State Farm. I also have my house, 2 vehicles, and some life insurance with them.

I dropped my coverage to fire/theft last winter, and when I went back to full this past spring...........it ended up costing me more in the long run.

So now I just leave full coverage on all year round, and that way if we get a nice day in January or Febuary.........I can hope on and go for a ride and not have to worry about the insurance.

I live in Canada, so my reality isn't yours, but I pay $750/year for full coverage including $2mm liability, and that includes a rider for accessories, which I had to have documented by a special audit of the bike.
The policies here are front end loaded, meaning that the insurance companies were born before we were. If you cancel at the end of the riding season, you may get a refund of about $100 for the winter months - then you still need fire and theft - it all = why go through the hassle of trying to save a dollar.

 

I live in Michigan, have an 02 RKC and pay 350/yr with 500 deductable with Progressive. It keeps going up and I'm considering cancelling all the insurance for the winter months. Even if I only get back $100 it's $100 in my pocket instead of wasted for insurance I don't need.

Originally Progressive had a winter months reduction in premium but they stopped that.

 

I have progressive and on my 80 flt i dropped collision off for the winter but had to keep the rest of it on.

Well insurance rates seem to be like a lottery more than a science. Always a gamble!

For my 83 Glide State Farm gets $ 269.96 a year. But I have that bike with a declared value of $ 10,000 plus added for an S&S engine $ 7,000, custom paint $ 3,500 and Side Car at $6,500. It had to document every one of these with an invoice placed in my agents file along with pictures.

On the other hand my 03 FLHTPI cost $ 414.60 a year with no additional stuff on the bike.

Yet when I sit round the coffee table with our group we find an amazing amount of difference on fairly similar bike values and years. One 03 Heratage is less than $ 200 a year while an 03 Duce is paying $ 750 plus a year. It really seems that every company has its own way to get you. The low rate policies seem to cover nothing extra but low blue book while the higher rates seem to be more liberal and cover some extras and high blue book.

When my 99 Glide got crunched to death, State Farm had some independent company determine the current market value of the bike. Was I a happy camper when the paperwork came through in a week. I got more than I ever expected. But that was State Farm.

The true value of the policy comes when the have to settle up. So you realy need to know a few actualy results from other riders to determine if your getting treated fairly or hosed.

I had multi-everything (Car, Truck, Boat, PWC, and house) with State Farm never and accident or claim and no ticket since 1984 and they wanted $1,200 p/year just for my Motorcycle. I went to Motorcycle Solutions and since then I tried to tear off the a$$ end of a F-250 with my Yukon and still only pay $560.00 p/yr. with 3 ins. points (for the wreck).

I keep total coverage on mine (I rode 75 miles today in 39 degree weather, but sunny) all year because I have a disease and have to get my therapy regularly, cold or not. I've sold my boat and I do split the ins. on the PWC.

 

I live in MIchigan also, I just switched to Wolverine ins (through a private co here) I pay $575 for an 03 Heritage and an 02 FLHTPI. I did do the storage ins this time because it saved me about $300 per year. Which falls into $300 per year of more chrome! Life is good!
