Not trying to be an arse but there is room at the top for many oils, many were not included in this test. Splitting hairs. The Harley oil is stressed because of oxidation caused by high continuous temperatures plus richer than preferred mixtures run in many performance engines which degrades any oil. TAN number is of prime concern. Test oil by sampling for reliable data. No other components of this engine stress oil as much as temperature. And synthetics do not enable cooler oil temperatures, fallacy. Years ago I did that and found the oil I was running didn't require changing, TAN number high, until 7000 miles. Verified by Blackstone Labs.

I like the blue color of the Valvoline VR-1 synthetic I have been using since I bought it by mistake.

I was running VR-1 conventional and thought something looked wrong when I grabbed 4 Qts. off the shelf at my neighborhood Napa. They changed the gray bottles to black. I just put the fact that it cost $2 more per bottle as the way things are nowadays.

I knew something was wrong when I started pouring and the oil came out blue instead of brown. I guess I should have put my glasses on and read the not-so-fine print. How's that for attention to detail?

They brag about extra ingredients for wear protection in older engines. I'm no expert, but I'm happy with it.

Maybe we ought to change the title to, "Just another oil story."

The hydraulic tensioners themselves add longevity to the cam chest, over the spring-loaded tensioners. I don't think there is any one oil that makes a big difference. Any quality oil and many economy brands do just as well. There are way too many variables to draw any conclusive results.
