Not Quite True

Like my vtx1800r also.

I have ridden a Fat Boy and a new Heritage Softail Classic. I like the Honda alot better. It is much stronger and faster. I weigh about 350 and the bike weighs 700 or more. So it is pulling somewhere around 1100 pounds down the hiwaay at over 140MPH with about half pull left in the throttle. I am from a sportbike background "Suzuki Hayabusa". I am kinda used to having power under me. I think with the VTX1300R Final Pinion Gear "a higher ratio" in my 1800R I should be able to hit or even pass 160 easy. Don't know that for sure just a guess.

P.S. I have a MPS racing Dry Nitrous kit in the box that I am thinking about installing. Havn't made that choice yet.
Sorry, but this statement will not fly. With the gear ratio of the VTX and a rev limit of 5600 RPM's the top speed of the VTX is 134 MPH. That is wide open not half throttle as you stated. As for the NOS, it will only get you to speed faster. It will not increase top speed due to the ratio factor. Weight, windshield, wind speed, elevation, temperature and many other things factor in top speed also.

I am not bashing VTX's as I onced owned a 1800 Retro and it was a nice bike, altho it was heavy and did not corner well in the twisties. I sold it and bought a 2005 FJR1300. I have also owned Harleys for 34 years and presently own a 2002 Ultra.

You are correct in stating that the rev limiter is 5600 "5625 actually" . I am not sure why I can pass the 135 barrier. I bought the bike in Knoxville TN from the Harley Dealer. I can only guess that the owner "may" have already made the pinion change. The previous owner left notes in the owners manual about several mods that were made such as Power Commander, and D & D Pipes, and heavy kevlar clutch. I am in Haleyville, AL and I can only tell you that you are welcome to bring the FJR "which is my Dream bike" and we can run side by side. I actually use a magellen GPS to set my Veypor and I also have my bike dynoed in Cullman at Rods which tells you the speed in plain view. I am agreeing with you on the facts you stated, however seeing i believing and I am always here or at the local bike shop here in Haleyville. Maybe its KPH :D I am seeing. For that bike to be able to pull ME up to that speed effortless is pretty weird. If you ever come down this way please drop me an emal or PM and I will give you direction to the bike shop. We try to ride every weekend. Sometimes we head to Pickwick Dam and Lynchburg. It would be cool to meet some new friends.

Ill post a link to my photo album, I like to show my toys off. The VTX is deep in the album. I think on page 3 or 4.

You are not allowing for speedometer error. That could easily account for the 5 mph indicated difference. By the way, how often do you go 140 mph? Do you have life insurance...a family...you are making a big bet on tires and road conditions.

As to the pinion change, you are making an assumption that higher gearing automatically means greater speed. That's not necessarily true. It takes greater HP. and Torque for more speed. Wind resistance and drag increase greatly at higher speeds. You say you know about Sport Bikes, in particular, the Hayabusa. Hell, if you want to go fast, that's the motorcycle. Seriously, if I really, really wanted to go really fast, it would never occur to me to buy a VTX.

Speed indications on a dyno do not correlate to actual road speed. There is no drag on a dyno.

I like the VTX but, as I say, there are different motorcycles for different purposes. VTX is a nice cruiser.

I wasn't far from you last summer. I rode 278 from Cullman over to Hamilton and then on to Tupelo. That was a nice ride from Cullman to Hamilton. D & H in Cullman is a big FJR Dealer. They sell all over the US. I didn't buy my bike there. My local dealer had a good price so I stayed at home. I am about 75 miles from Pickwick.

Like I said, the VTX is a powerful bike. Just keep it in the middle and the shiny side up. One of these days I am going to try one of them Busa's. LOL

Joe add me to your list

You're a *****. You come over here trying to convert Harley riders to Honda riders and get your arse kicked. What do you expect.

I owned a VTX 1800c before I bought my Heritage. I had a superglide before the VTX. I've ridden since 1967 jap, british, and harley. I've loved all my bikes except the Kawasaki's I've owned. I don't need some stupid SOB trying to tell me what I should ride.

Ok here is your personal arse kicking from me. YOU ARE A WANNABE. Why else would you come over here looking for acceptance. Go to the VTXOA.COM site. They love to bash Harleys. Penis envy I think for those who bash others rides. For the most part they are good folks and if you need your tiny penis stroked go to the Harley bashing threads.

I've got a feeling you'll feel inadequate over there since you have the 1300 vtx jr. bike. Be a man not a girlie man and get the 1800. They'll do 135 mph.

Oh well Joe, my post is full of sh!t. But at least I know it and I don't feel like I need to go to the VTX site to stir the pot.

rabtech I don't know what you're smokin but I want

Some. I won't even debate your post. I owned a VTX 1800c with most of the modifications you have and was a member of the VTXOA site. YOU ARE A WANNABE BLOWHOLE. You know nothing about motorcycles and have no idea what you are talking about.

A hayabusa or sport bike will put out those numbers but a VTX won't. With your fatarse those bikes probably won't do 160 either.

Well at least Hogboy admits he's full of it.

I guess he owned a VTX1800 and couldn't handle it and ended up with a Heritage. Seems like a lot of women ride those.......

That's it Joe. That's all you got?

Dang I'm sorry for makin you my baitch for the day. I was bored at work.

Don't forget to take off the emblems so that folks think you're on a Harley. You're just another Wannabe Harley rider that never owned a Harley looking to shoot your mouth off because of penis envy. Sure you come over here saying how you owned a Harley and went to ........ blah blah blah blah. Well I've done both. I owned the real VTX not a wannabe VTX and I enjoyed the bike.

I never rode or cared to ride the little sister 1300. Of course the VTX 1300 is the choice of the female VTX riders. I would never ride the 1300 or squat when I pee. Getting a 1300 will cause those big bad 1800 riders to kick sand in your face and take your lunch money. I'd do it but you don't have enough lunch money for me to take seeing that you can't afford a Harley

This is my last post to you Josephine. I want a baitch with some smarts to her.

Disclaimer:
I respect what you ride (except you Josephine) and do not assume that anyone is a wannabe until they act like this dumbass. I like sportbikes, love boats, jap bikes, brit twins etc.

WTF are you talking about? They're both VTXs. Personally, I prefer the 1300 over the 1800. It has a single-pin engine just like our hogs, so it has a nice rumble and feel to it, not like the 1800. You do know that the 1300 will give your Heritage a run for her money, right?

You're a classy guy. Were you an asshole before you bought your first Harley?

It's all about the ride.

Hell of a first post... you'll last a long time around here
