spoke with dealership the other day about the same problems and they told me that they are speaking with the motorco and trying to figure out what bikes have been effected by the iac, they said two bikes are stock and one is motoified that they have with the same symptoms right now. Once this is figured out they will have a better idea on how to fix the problem. Ie change out the iac or ajust the sert. They also said all three bikes our touring models. Will keep u up to date when I hear back on Tueaday.

Have a 05 FLHRI . Same symtoms as yours. Called dealer next day and was told about the overheating process like you were just explained to. But was also told that being the engine was so new that it was quite tight. And this would get better as the engine got some miles on it. As of now with 8500 miles the bike seems to run better than when I got it...tribal
The mileage might be the issue. Last year at bike week, a friend of mine with his new RK had severe overheating problems while waiting in traffic. Even though my 2002 Ultra was getting hot, it never chugged or quit. However, I've got 45k on the bike so the breaking in might be the ticket.

Check for a vacuum leak. They can give you some mighty strange symptoms.

Just found one on my 04 Ultra. The bike ran fine to me. Except, when I would first start it from cold it would occassionally misfire when releasing the clutch. Never happened when warm.

My point is, the delphi efi is actually very good at compensating for changes in pressure; including leaks. That's the first thing I would check if your getting strange symptoms that are related to idle or low speed operation).

My leak developed after 14K miles and without me ever touching the intake body. They're more comon than you would think with the new bikes. But easliy diagnosed. Just a PITA to change the gaskets yourself.

IAC checked out OK...with my call to customer svs. & the tech calling them, MOCO had dealer next day airfreight ECM back to them..........upgrades forthcoming.
i also understand there is a new DFO for the '06's

HD states somewhere in their description of 2006 changes that 2006 models have a redesigned heat management system. Very likely that's the reason that it feels differently.
Taken from the HD 2006 Touring Master Change document:

New Hot Engine
Management Strategy
(all touring models)
• Similar strategy as currently
used with different
parameters
• Normal operating idle RPM
reduced from 1000 to 950
• Hot engine RPM reduced
from 900 to 800
• Spark timing, A/F ratio and
skip spark all utilized to reduce
engine-generated heat
• RPMs will automatically
be increased if required
to maintain proper
battery voltage
