It took harley a while to get the roller bearings to work but today there are nearly zero failures. I install timkens on 03up twin cams, yes. But that said it is not needed on most ham and egger builds. Money is best spent on a S&S crank if budget is tight and using the latest lefty bearings. Then if you have a 4" stroke 4 3/8" comes for free. The stack is held axially with the comp and spacers. Is a timken better, yes. But is it necessary, sometimes, but never a mistake unless it is installed poorly.
