My buddies and I went with the STAGE I kits and
drilled the baffles out of the stock slip ons.

Sound great, with a total gain of 8hp.

Unless you want to change the look of your bike this is the way to go for the money. IMHO

 

I was thinking about the SE or Krome Werks, I want the pipes louder without overdoing it. I was told the Krome Werks are easier to put on than SE. Also told I would want to drill the carb

 

I've got a 2003 FXSTI with stage 1 including SEII Slip Ons and like them a lot. They have the Harley sound that I wanted but are not too loud. I also like the shorty dual slash down look.

 

I went with the SE baloney cut slip ons,SE air filter kit and dyno-jet on my 03 FXST. the sound is perfect,not too loud,not too quiet,and I love the look and sound of the slash-cut mufflers.

You and your friends have injected or carbed bikes? If injected did you use the standard stage 1 remap or did you have to do something different after drilling the baffles?

 

We have injected bikes, and we did have to use the Stage1 remap because we also went with the SE breather kit. To me the exhaust sounds good considering it's a cheap mod.(12 bucks for the hole saw to drill out baffles)

2-1 if you want more power. I put on the SEII slip ons and am going to switch to a 2-1 for more power. You lose 5-10% power with drag pipes.

 

I have an 02 Standard and I'm running a Ness Stage1 Big Sucker and Python3 Slip-ons. The Pythons have a deep rumble simular to V&H, I've been told that V&H are louder but I've never heard V&H, but the Pythons are loud enough for me. I'm very happy with the setup and saved some $$ compared to the S.E. stuff. Bought it all on Ebay for $320.00, brand new sealed in factory boxes.

 

I have a carbeurated 03 Standard with SEII slash downs and the SE stage 1 kit. Looks great, sounds better and the neighbors don't mind at all. In fact, everyone came outside for the first two weeks when I started it up...

 

check out the vance & hines big shot staggereds...i put a set on my standard and love them. they are pretty loud, but have a really good tone.
