Dropped a nut

While working on the bike I dropped an exhaust clamp nut.
It fell down between the trans and inner primary.
I could see it down kinda on top of the belt/front pulley.
It was in a very tight spot with the shifter arm down there.

While attempting to fish it out it fell down in front of the belt/pulley and under it.

Is there any hope of getting that thing out of there without tearing the inner primary apart?

Thanks for listening

dropped stuff

Best to have a telescoping pencil magnet of your choice, a stock Harley mirror, flashlite, freshly swept floor before you start work. Good hearing is a plus.

Dropped a nut. Man,,, that just does not sound good at all. :) Like Masters said, a telescoping magnet is a good start. I have used an old dental picks and small diameter wires in the past. It may have just found a new home. lol Best of luck.

I was think'n the same thing when I first read the thread title LOL.

I Know... not funny. Think I'd start by picking up tools and what ever else is under the bike, then move bike for a better look on the floor. If no luck with that then it's magnets, air, flashlight, and feel around the suspect areas on the bike.

Hope you find yer nut real soon!!

I lost one in the same area on my Road King. Tried the magnet and air thing with no results. I finally got the garden hose and flushed from the bottom of the bike and washed it out. If you ride in the rain it is going to get wet in that area so should not be a problem. I just used the air to blow out some of the water when done. I wouldn't ride it until I found the nut. If it gets caught between the belt and pulley that could get costly. Good Luck.

If you don't have one of those telescoping magnets, get one. Even if it does not work for this issue, I will bet you 7 beers that at some time you will need it and you'll think it is the greatest tool ever made.

And trust me, get that nut our before riding. If you have my luck it will somehow get jammed in the belt and break it.

It's prolly laying on top of the belt, or in behind the shift lever.
That's where it originally landed. While trying to get it out it had fallen down under the front pulley.

I could see it from underneath but there wasn't enough room for it to fit out between the case and belt/pulley.

I picked up a flexible tip extending pencil magnet and (with a little finesse) was able to fish it out the top.

Thank everyone again for all the tips and suggestions
