What mods have you tried - and how much did it cost per HP...
Decked heads, thinner head gasket, head work, 95 kit, cams, larger TB, different carb...etc...
What is your favorite mod. vrs $ per hp...

wow, I know it is off topic, but it makes me really appreciate diesel tech even more. how about 75hp for, $350? better mileage, and 5 minute install and removal. Less than $5 per HP~!Awesome!

I had the dealer do the initial build on my Heritage...95in, gear cams, se ignition. Paid to damn much but it was a huge increase power. Then i went back and changed the heads (CNC ported GMR), and pushrods myself. Also had my carb reworked by Dakota Kid. Not doing everything you want the first time adds a lot to the cost. I haven't added it all up (don't really want to know) but i'm sure it's well over $100 per HP. The head work really woke up the engine and it now revs much quicker. Haven't had it dyno'd since head work but seat of the pants tells me it was well worth the money and probably the most critical part of building an engine.

Berserker...what was your hp gained vrs money spent...seems like a simple concept...even in "da hood"....
Dunno about da hood, I am just a dumb ass country boy.

But I paid $2900 for parts and tools. Not the most econoimical thing. But there are only so many things you can do.

I have talked to people who did this. Its a differant chip in the brain box, sorta. Probably takes them out of EPA compliance. Sorta like a remap?? I don't have a diesel, but I am thinking about it someday.

I spent $75.86 per HP/TQ to get 145 HP & 145 TQ from my GMR built 124" not including EFI & exhaust.

It was well worth it. I'd do it again.............:xhere: :xhere: :xhere:

Diesel is by far the cheapest bang for the buck in the power sports world. I added an aftermarket box that simply raises fuel pressure in the common rail fuel system by a few thousand PSI. Have you ever seen a 6500 pound pickup smoke the rear tires and still capable of 22mpg+? Another way is to change injectors, $1000 injectors can net 125 hp...
Someday the US will catch up with Europe and realize what we are missing out on. VW TDIs are a blast, and cheap to hop up, real sleepers, and still get 40+ MPG. The new e320 CDI (stock)will blow the doors off the gas version, doing 0-60 in about 6 seconds, and still getting 35 mpg. Not to mention run forever(almost) and low maintenance.

Sorry for the off topic ramblings, diesels are my next love after the bikes...

Those are the changes that made the HP. There were other items bought and discarded and of course the stage 1 parts that were already there. There were also the items that should be changed as wear items. This does not count labor, since it can be done by yourself and does not count the dyno, but neither did the oil filter change.
I am just showing that it can be done cheaply.

Why does everyon compare us to Europe ? Have you been to Europe ? I don't want to catch up. I thought the rest of the world was supposed to catch up to us.

Europe has $5 a gallon gas and finally we are going to catch up on that.

Maybe bad dental work is next.

Thet can afford to since they use our military for defense.

Sorry, I meant automotively (is that a word?) Diesels are far superior and do you have any idea of how much oil we would save by selling/driving more diesels? millions of barrels a day. And that is if we only raise the percentage of diesel cars by a small fraction of what is on the road over the pond. There, about 50% of cars on the road are diesels.
Couple new diesel tech with biodiesel, and there is no reason for the crap that is being sold and the prices we are paying. Hybrids are a JOKE! they lie about the mileage, what are you supposed to do with the batteries when they wear out? So much for a "green" vehicle. How much do new ones cost? Do you know it takes more energy to make one of those batteries, than it will ever save during it's lifespan?

rant off...

I'm gonna beta test a new "box" from Quadzilla that boasts over 150 HP and will retail for about $400...(cost to me $200)...along with my stage II injectors (used w/new nozzels at $200) should net me about 200 HP + HP...for a $2 a HP cost...(at 23 mpg highway:D)

The signature below for the bike cost about $2500 for about 34-36 ponies and a ton of torque

There is only so much Diesel that can be made from a barrel of oil. There is a balance that can be shifted a bit. Diesel was much cheaper than gasoline when it was used for heating, semis, construction equipment, etc. Only an odd bird would have personal vehicle that was diesel powered.
Today, there are many changes to the diesel engines, particulary with fuel injection and computers. There are many things that can be done to hot rod them, so many suv's and personal trucks and RVs are now deisel powered. Note that the price of diesel fuel has risen more than gasoline. Is it going to get cheaper? There is just so much used french frie oil available. These resteruants used to sell it to make soap, now they can sell it for more money.
I would be suprised if anyone is really getting it free, and the process of changing it is not exactly free. the price of the unit, the chemicals needed, the space needed and the labor needed is substancial. Yes it is cheaper, but soon, it will harder to get and the goverment is going to want road taxes, like they did with propane.

Some of us have been there already.

how are they getting the power? timing, duration, PSI? what do you have, cummins, ps or dmax?

Europe and Asia make great diesels, you notice them more when you travel, why does the US seem so behind? Sure we make alot of good pickups but you never see them sold in great numbers offshore like the toyota landcruiser is. Our manufacturers, like they have been since they had real competition, are behind on the game, they have been playing catch up for so long sadly I dont know if they can stride out on there own.

Every time I see pictures of Moscow or Saudi It sure seems that there a lot of Suburbans and similar vehicles on the road. They are hard to beat when you are transporting 6 adults. They can be armored and the windows frequently are dark tinted.

Diesel has been less then gas here for a month. Wonder what that means? Hope not, a slowing in trucking, which means a recession. Production up?

Mine worked out to about $100/hp add ---- including pipes, feuling oil pump, oil, labor, SERT, dyno time, etc. I suppose if you break out the actual items producing hp (cam, heads, pistons, and cylinder bore) it would be much less.

As I was planning the build, early hp gains were less expensive. The higher you climb the steeper the price.
