Hi Can anyone help me out
I have an 03 Fat boy

I am trying to change the leather tank cover for a chrome one and I tried to loosen the center nut to get access to the top screws of the leather cover.

Problem is it has a bullseye console nut and it may be loctited on.

It turns but it feels like the stud is turning as well

Any suggestions as to how to take it off??

Thanks in advance

George

Mine does that as well, and I don't use locktite. No matter how tight I tighten it, it always spins the stud underneath. One day I will fix it, right now, I am too busy trying to get in some last minute riding before I put my bike in a box headed for the states....

The "stud" on my '04 Heritage is actually a carriage bolt (has a square surface on the head side that fits into a slot on the tank). If that is what yours is, you're screwed. You'll have to find a way to cut off the acorn nut without damaging the dash.
I hate to say it, but i think the FatBoy is the same design. If all else fails i'd take a dremel with a cut-off wheel and cut the nut as close to the base as you can. Just be careful not to damage your dash. What a PITA.

NOOOOOO !!! If they are the same design (and they are), and the carriage bolt is NOT in its slot (as was proposed).... then NOTHING is holding down the dash !! Just lift it up! You can then hold the carriage bolt and remove the nut.

The "stiction" from the rubber gasket is probably all that is holding down (as well as the vent tube in front) the dash.

IF the bolt is a carriage bolt and IF it's still in the slot and spinning you can duct tape the hell out of you dash and get one of those tools used to crack rusty/frozen nuts...it should crack it so you can remove it...

Well, i said IF ALL ELSE FAILS. If the bolt is still in the slot and the whole thing is turning then there are not many options. No bid deal. I could have that thing cut off in about 5 minutes. Just put duct tape on the dash around the nut to protect the chrome while you work.

Push down on the dash with a little pressure, and slide it forward towards the handlebars. That will disengage the bolt from it's anchor point. If you do damage to your dash, and need to buy a new one, I can sell my old factory chrome one to you. All I would ask is about 1/2 od what the MoCo wants.
