I am looking to start some engine work on my 91 lowrider-conv. I am trying to find out the best cam to use. I was looking at the Andrews EV-27. I know alot of people use it and its a good cam but i want to make sure it will fit my riding style. I normal ride 2-up with bags (leathers and chaps in the bags and tool bag on the front about 30 pounds). I weigh 175 and girl is 115. I mostly ride country roads and city driving. I want to find the cam that would suit me the best please let me kow what you think.

If you do a lot of two up riding stay with a cam that has about 240 duration or so. It will give better low end torque and throttle response at lower rpm's. The highewr the duration the more likely it is to ping and give poor performance at lower speed. I run an S&S 600 in mine with 11:1 comp and I have to downshift a lot to get around trafic, but what a blast to shift into third at 70 and pull the wick tight.

EV23

On the cam issue.

I recently kicked my motor open on my '96 FXDL because of the 'cheap' cam bearing the HD decided to use back then and the fact that several of my friends were have bearing failure in their Evos.

I talked to the Andrews engineers several times and they kept recommended the EV23. Put the puppy in and am very pleased with it.

If you have questions call them. They have kinda strange hours, like between 10am-12n and then again between 2pm-3:30pm. But they'll ask you a few questions and give you their $.02.

One thing I do remember them saying about the 23 vs the 27 was that the 23 is a more up todate grind.

Thanks for the info.....I think the first thing i need is some quality pipes. I have a set of normal pipes (like the stock ones) and a set of drags. I like the engine performance with the drags and no baffles. I was just getting the attention of too many of clevelands finest. I put the baffles in and even tryed modifying them a little. The engine performance is horrible with them in. I can barely make it to 4k i start losing power @ 3500.....I think they provide way to much back pressure. I am thinking about some long shots but they are alot of cash.

My FXDL.

I have done some CV mods CV modifications. Replaced the air cleaner with a SE unit and put on a set of Vance and Hines Pro 2into1 pipes. With the EV-23 cam the bike jumps and mid-range power is unbelieveable.

You have to let the bike breath and drink before ANY cam will work.

I run the Competition Cams V-Thunder EVL-3020, which is their closest cam to the Andrews EV27.

I run it in my '98 FLHTC. I weigh 180lbs, usually ride without passenger, and with bike stripped down (that is, no Tour Pak).

Still, I would wager that my bike is heavier than your lowrider.

I find that the low end is perfectly adequate with this cam, and it really gets up and goes on the highway. It makes good power right up to the 6000 rpm rev limit.

My only other mods are SE aircleaner, Dynojet carb kit, SE 6000 rpm ignition, White Brothers E-Series 2 into 1 exhaust. No head work. Stock compression.

You might also consider the EVL-3010 which is a tad more of a lower end cam.

You can buy the V-Thunder cams without the gear and use your stocker, which saves $$$ and will run quieter.

Have fun:D

For what it's worth, have a 89 FLHTC, only mods are exhaust, S&S carb with K&N filter, and jetted the carb for KS altitude. Put an Andrews 23 in that bad boy, worked on the mixture and exhileration pump and it is great. I'm 275 and the women are usually 140-165 and it kickes ass for an old bike and rider. Has 67,000 on it and it is great. Better mileage and will run good at 2-2500 rpms.
