I have a 2007 Deuce with 37,000 miles and 96 Twin Cam Balanced. No problems at all.

 

never had any probs with my 96. keep it serviced and it's never let me down. had an 07 fatboy and put 58K on it in 2 years, then got a 09 eg and have 50 on that one. no probs with either scoot.

 

There's no guarantee's that you'll have the same good luck with the 07 street glide but there also is no reason why you can't. I've ridden to Washington DC, Blue Ridge Parkway, Niagara Falls, Arkansas, Sturgis and California, twice.

The only time I had an issue that could have caused me to lose time on the road was the trip to D.C. when my bike's rear pulley bearing went bad. This happened on the first day of the trip and I was fortunate to come across a dealer who got me fixed up in a matter of about an hour and a half.

But.....that problem did NOT leave me stranded on the side of the road since I was able to still ride the bike when I got to the dealership. On my last trip to California my radio quit working after a rain storm in Kansas. This, of course, did not effect the running of the bike but a dealer in Temecula, CA was able to get it working again by pulling and reinstalling the fuse. Sort of like rebooting a computer I guess.

The good thing about riding a Harley is you usually are not too far away from a dealer while traveling in the US. When riding long distances, I try to stay in a town with a Harley dealer close by just in case I need to have any service done. You just never know if you need a part or two. I needed a spot light when I was traveling through Arizona the last time when a rock shattered it.

As long as the person who has owned that Street Glide took good care of it and you continue the same you can expect good reliability compared to your EVO. I doubt you'll feel like you made a mistake getting the 07. Good Luck!

 

get ready for junk wheel bearings and inner primary bearings as well, all else is pretty good. i think my evo is a much better motorcycle.

 

Your experience will be very similar to your Evo. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but are otherwise every bit as reliable as the previous models.

Got a bud with 50K trouble free miles on his '07 EG Standard.

 

keep the 96 over the 07. the 07 is plagued with lots of issues. some of those issues will cost as much to fix as you would spend to buy anotheer 96.

 

Haven't spent a dime on any issues with my '07 Ultra.
No issues at all.
Iowa to California (R/T) without a bit of problems.
Going again this year.

 

Plenty of guys here still riding 07s without much issue. Being the first year of the 96, there were a few common problems. You will get mixed responses on whether to trade or not. I would say get an 09 or later if you can.

 

I had to cancel my vacation, cause my month old 2007, as dieing. I was pretty bitter about that bike. It has been on a lift for 2 years, so I guess I got over it.

Hell, the tourpak lock was mounted upside down. Head lights quit working. Stalls. Radio turned on by itself. TPS sensor wire shorting on fins, clutch interlock not working, when bike stalls.

But it hasn't leaked oil like my 01.

My bike was made after the strike was settled. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. Which I suppose is wishful thinking.
