Is it fuel injected or carb? I replaced the ecm relay on mine to clear up the same problem.

 

If carbed replace fuel petcock with non-vacuum

 

Probably last thing I would do.

Does everything shut off, as in electrical? There was a issue with main breaker on some early twin cams.

The time it took a few minutes to start, what was it doing? Was it turning over?

 

Think i heard a higher amp fuse was needed..on twinkies and later twinks....but could be wrong..99....you evo or twinkie...i think a mixed year?

They went to a maxi fuse, instead of main breaker. Early 2000s. Enter VIN for the hell out it for safety recalls. Not that Harley is good for it. I do have one, for my lights rubbing and going out. I wonder if 20 hyeares later they will still do it? Ha.

But we need details. Is dash still on? starter still tiurn when trying to start?

Coil also pops into mind. Check, engine light on? You can go through dash to check for codes.

 

It's the main circuit breaker. I had the same issue. Replaced it 20 years ago and it's been fine since.

 

I replaced mine last year for the heck of it. it was fairly cheap, oddly enough. Also replaced one or two of the relays,. with the intent to replace them on all my bikes. Hopefully I do it before one fails.

I am not sure it ever made to a recall. But there was discussion.

I did not read in detail. Google more for your bike. But looks like they replaced 40 with a 50.

not 1999s, but maybe same.

Before you scream children will die because a bigger breaker was used. It depends if the wiring is big enough, and such.

 

It was in fact a recall in 2000.
