Anyone have a suggestion for adding a 12V power port for a GPS, cell phone, etc? Something mounting on the bars, frame, or other place. '11 RK Classic

I like and use the powerlet handlebar mount for my Zumo. They have 2 styles for regular cigarette lighter and the bmw style power adapter.

This is it on my old bike.

Look on the back of your headlight, there is a orange wire with white stripe and a black wire coming off of it. Whenever the light is on, you will have power. My FLHR came with blade type connectors already on them. Orange/white is positive, black is negative. I picked a up a cigarette style outlet at Advance Auto for less than $10( vs $70 for a Kuryaken or $100 for Powerlet). Works great!!!!
The one I purchased has 2 slots on the bracket and I used some cable ties to mount it to my bars. Not pretty, but functional...

HD sells a kit to mount it in your saddlebag, you need the kit and a wiring harness piece off a HD battery tender. The whole thing from them is like $50. Harness part # 70264-94a and Saddlebag-Mount Auxiliary Power Port- part # 69200091
Or this....this plugs in to your aux plug under seat.... Auxiliary Power Port - Side-Panel Mount- part # 91843-97
That ones $20.

I used the Kuryakin 'Power Point'. run a power wire to your battery/aux harness etc. Pickup a dual USB cigarette adapter and you have two USB power sources.

They're chrome and mount on your handlebars, engine guard, etc.

I picked up universal cig lighter plug from Autozone. Make sure you get one with blade terminals. Some have what looks like a small machine screw where the B+ wire goes and that means changing the terminals on the wires. Pulled my outer fairing off. Located the org/wht and blk wires close to the headlight plug. Org/wht wire gets connected to the terminal in the center of the lighter and blk connects to the outer ring. Cable tied it to the factory harness just behind the radio. Plugged in the power port/usb adapter and cable tied them together so nothing would come loose. I ran my charging cord along my clutch cable to my phone mount. This way you don't have a cig plug hanging from your bars. All you have is the cord cable tied to your clutch cable. In hindsight, I wish I would have thought about doing this when I installed my bars and ran my phone cord internal with the rest of the wiring.

Try 3BR Powersports they sell some nice units either power or USB ports. I installed a USB port with the cord originating at a vacant plug under the seat that is switched with the ignition. Did this while I had the tank off so it runs up under the tank and the USB plug is attached to the frame just under the front of the tank. I run my phone cord down through the nacelle to the power and my phone sits in a windshield bag. When I have my GPS installed I have a short power cord for that and it runs down though the nacelle too.

Not for GPS but I added one in the tourpak of my FLHR. One of these days will do the same for my Ultra. I like having it in the trunk so you charge stuff out of sight, and straight off the battery so the bike doesn't have to be on.

When I am riding with my Ultra I have just ran the cord to the windshield bag to charge phone.

I think the OP has a Road King which does not have a batwing full of places for a 12 v plug. The best way is one that was given and that is to install a battery tender plug hook up on your battery. It will have the SAE plug that is to be protruding from under the seat so that the battery tender may be connected. You may then purchase from many sources like Dennis Kirk, J&P or any motorcycle electrical source the 12V plug with a SAE connector. They have many items that you may purchase to use the Battery Tender connector. They have USB, phone and multi 12V receptacles that all have the SAE type of connector. They also have extensions so that you don't have to be at the bike to use the power source. I would not use the MOCO dealership for any item like this as was suggested by another poster. Unless you enjoy paying 4-5 times what it should cost. If they operated on a normal profit margin it would be different but the years of being able to sell all the bikes they could make turned them into a rich man's store. Later Fairshake
