I have a 03 fxst with the dunlap 150 rear tire. I'm told that the metzler 150 would look a little wider. Is that right or is there a 150 tire that looks wider and will fit my frame. I know I cant get any wider than a 150.

Bean is right...The Avons are running wider than the Metzelers since Metz make the tires in Brazil now. They were the fattest 150 but now resemble a 140 if you are lucky.

avon does make 2 150 sizes though so be careful on which one you chose.

I asked the same thing if the 157mm would fit, but didn't find the answer. Found a lot of people used the 150mm with no problem, and that is true on my 07 FLHR, which I use. Speed rating looks to be different.

150/80B16 ^ 77V is 157mm (Speed rating of 149 mph)
150/80B16 ^ 77H is 150mm (Speed rating of 130 mph)

Like txchop says since Metz is making tires in Brazil, you may actually end up with a tire marked 150 that is the same size as a 130.

Here are some rear tire dimensions to consider.

Dunlop E-3 160/80B16: diameter: 26.10, width: 6.10

Dunlop D401 150/80B16 71H: diameter: 25.45, width: 6.15

Avon Venom-X 150/80-16 71H: diameter: 25.20, width: 5.90

Adding to this list, from the Metzeler catalog:

Metzeler ME880 150/80B16 71H: diameter: 25.43, width: 6.02

Metzeler ME880 160/80B16 75H: diameter: 26.06, width: 6.38

However, as TXCHOP said, much of their production is now in Brazil, and they seem to be having problems producing tires which conform to their listed specs. I was lucky and got a 160 size made in Germany earlier this year, and it's dimensions are as listed.

Went with a 150 K591 over the Avon on my 03 Super Glide. The K591 looks fine to me. Dunno if it actually is any wider than the Avon, or if it LOOKS wider, but I went with the reccomendation of an inde for a good, sticky tire - and I am quite pleased with the K591. It actually felt stickier to the touch than the Avon Venom. On the track, my problem used to be wheelspin, now it's wheelies.

If you're just going for the look - the 180s got it!

Isn't picking a tire because of how wide it looks a bit silly? I mean, unless you're going to push the bike off a trailer and over to the bike show.

How about traction, profile, construction, handling, durability? Hell, pick it because it's got less road noise at least!
