What information does the SERT module collect to marry itself to the bikes ECM?
Does it use the ECM Serial number or the VIN number embedded into the ECM.

If it uses the VIN embedded, can the (or a replacement) ECM be reprogrammed by the dealership scanner equipment to match another bikes existing VIN so the SERT would be programmably operational on two bikes?

Just a thought.

But for the eeprom in the hardware key itself, it probably doesn't care about the Cal id and such. Only the VIN.

And it would seem to me that if you could reflash a VIN that the key is married to into another ECM, that should work. It would be easy enough to try if there was a spare ECM to play with.

Let me just say this about that...

When the Street Glides VINs were not being recognized by the SERT, shops WERE changing the VINs on them to something the SERT would recognize, so yes, I have firsthand knowledge if it being done that way.

They probably have the software that enables them to reflash the memory as many times as they need to.

A new ECM can be flashed to mimic your old one (should it fry) so that your SERT can be used with it.
