The recall affected about 100 of the very first produced V-Rods. An instrument used to test engine heat was miscalibrated, allowing the engines to severly overheat durring the test run. These bikes all shipped before Feb. of '02 and they all (supposedly) recieved new engines, installed at the dealership. I never did hear the investigation results of the on-track crash that killed the HD test rider. If anyone knows, I'd like to hear too.

I thought this Talledega incident was over and done with; however, based on these last comments, I'm not so sure. This is the first time I've heard anything about the engine feezing up. My V-Rod was manufactured 11/01. Does anyone have a lead on how one can locate a listing of the actual VINs on those bikes that were the subject of the "recall."

I have one of the early bikes that got a new engine. The bikes in question were produced over a few sequential days. All owners were contact through their dealer and new engine/transmissions were installed at no expense to customer. I had 950 miles when mine was replaced. A factory rep came over from Kansas City and put the engine in my bike in two days. Everything is fine now.

You never know with these things. That was the version for the public. There has been some talk that the problem that caused them to lock up actually was in the gearbox. Guess we will never know, but there has been more then one of these bikes with strange gearbox problems.

If there is any connection, it makes much more sense for a professional rider to have a problem with a gearbox lockup then a engine lockup.

recall

My bike was built 11-01-01. I didn't hear anything from H-D so I just hope everything is o.k. I have 8k miles and only trouble so far was a minor oil leak. Otherwise the bike is awesome!

I was reading in the other forum that H-D told dealer not to allow anyone to ride a Vrod with a failing trans...........Could this be because they are worried it will lock up?
