I have an 03 Fatboy which I am planning to change out the stock pipes. I have decided on the V&H Pro Pipe HS primarily for the style and looks. Reading up on the catalogs, I noticed you can purchase a competion baffle for these pipes. Does anyone know the difference between the regular baffle and the competion one? From what I am reading in the forum the Pro Pipes are a medum to loud pipe. I would rather be on the loud end of the noise spectrum. Can you folks give some input on what you feel are the louder pipes? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, but what are torque baffles? Are they the same as competition baffles, are they the standard baffles that come with the Pro Pipe HS purchase, or are they baffles made by another company.

Thanks

Great choice on the pipes. I just put them on my '02 Ultra. I noticed a definite power increase. My suggestion is to speak with your mechanic to see what his plan is for upgrading your ECM. I am assuming that you are fuel injected. Are you changing your air cleaner? Your mechanic should be able to tell you what changes will be made. Ask him if a competition freeflow baffle would require additional modifications to the ECM or would it be the same ECM Flash as the standard baffle. Good Luck

The torque baffle should be the one shipped with the pipe. It is closed on one end with holes on the sides and of course open on the other end. The competition baffle is a little longer and open straight through with what looks like a "torque cone" welded on one end and larger holes on the sides. Competition baffle is much louder with little backpressure. My dyno tuner swears that even on my 120 Merch the Torque baffle will still provide better streetable power. Once the engine has some miles I'm going to try both baffles to see with my own eyes.

pro-pipe HS baffle

The only difference between the comp baffle and the reg baffle. I had both was the metal disk on the reg baffle is removed on the comp giving a straight thru, That is the only real difference the holes on the side was the same, etc. just the end cap or disk as i called it was removed.
I did lose some power with the comp baffle. But it did sound better.

Do not use the competition baffle, it robs power. try the torque baffle it performs extremely well.if it is not lout enough remove the fiberglass packing that is wrapped around the baffle. Keep the packing though because if you go big bore with headwork, cams etc you will want to put the packing back in ,because it gets really loud and you lose torque without it. not so much with a stock motor. Good luck I think you will really like your choice

Pro pipe baffles rattle

Howdy,

I have a 95 Ultra classis with about 14k miles on my pro pipes.
Recently the baffles have started to rattle, grrrrrrr what a pisser.

Is this unusual.

They perform great, but I sure hope I don't have to replace the baffles every year.

Thanks,
kevin

Standard baffle is the best choice, IMO. It performs better in most circumstances, is plenty loud with a handful of wick and reasonably quiet when you want to be in neighborhoods and such.

Competition baffle will cost you in low to mid power range. Large dip in the TQ curve. Stick with the stock baffle and if you do mods afterwards then you can always drill out the holes a bit more. Trust me, this pipe will bark when opened up, but we have actually closed off a row or two of the holes to get maximum power. Great pipe right out of the box!

@gree:

My indie tuner is really good and also closed off two rows of holes using hose clamps on the standard baffle. It runs great and he says it dynos best this way.

my wife was AMAZED at the power of the VH PP on my RK, after having 3 other sets of pipes on it.

she asked me at at stop light "WHAT did you do to it?"

it's almost too loud sometimes, but if you putter around, you can keep it mellow.

if the Comp is free'er flowing & louder, you won't want it.

sounds like you could cut the end off the regular baffle and make a Comp one if needed.

one guy on here puts a bolt & few washers on the end, drills holes in the end, and then adjusts it to tune. search for that....

I'll try to find the thread...
This is the best ProPipe mod ever, I have tried many ways, blocking row/s of holes etc, and although I don't have a dyno, I can tell you that this way you get rid of that TQ dip 2700-3000! There is all the power intended there now and you can definately feel it in the seat of your pants....Substaintially!
At least with my 95"/tw37/BigBoyz street heads build...

WOW! It wasn't easy to find, but here it is. chas gave some great info on it here! Be sure to read the whole thread! Also there is a typo that carries I believe throughout the thread and that is the washer width which is 1-5/8 not 5/8... anyhow, great info and you will definately feel that boost down there where the TQ dip is!
