Turn Signals

Just this past weekend I took the reflectors off. I used nothing more then a blow dryer to heat up the adhesive.
Yeah I took the reflectors off my Bob too. Now I want to remove the turn signals. I think Bob would look so much better without them but I'm worried about screwing up the electrics.

Has anybody removed the turn signals from an '06 Dyna yet? How did you handle the electrics? Would a HD Service Department do it for me?

Guess I could ask, eh! :duh?:

I have my bike in the shop now for the recall. While it's there, I'm getting them to relocate the turn signals to the forks. I got custom mirrors for Crimmas and they don't fit well at all w/ the signals being where they are. When I get it back, I'll post pics.

But to answer your question, no. I haven't removed them. Sorry!

I hate where the front turn signals are. HATE IT! But I would rather have them then not. Don't much care for the look of them on the pinch bolts either. On my Sporty I used a turn signal relocation kit to move them to the forks. It kept them from sticking way out like when they are mounted on the pinch bolt of the bottom plate of the triple trees. I mounted them lined up with the headlight. Not bad. Don't know about doing that on a Bob though. Might wind up doing it anyway to clean up the bars. :hmmm:

I could see a problem with moving them though, that being having to remove the wiring from the cloth wrapping around the wiring.

Now if your talking about the rear turn signals... I have seen some fairly good options for doing that!
I just moved my front signals from the handlebars to the lower triple tree on my 06 Super Glide Custom. Looks so much better! To get around taking the tank off as the directions tell you to do I just disassembled the signals themselves and pulled the wires from that side. It was worth the effort.

Did you put them on the pinch bolts, or mount them to the fork tubes? I haven't looked yet, but was wondering if they have a set of relocation mounts for the 49mm tubes.

I had the Custom Chrome kit on my Sporty. It was basically just a set of clamps that bolted around the tubes, and the signals bolted into the clamps.

HD sells a kit to relocate them ... part #68564-06 List is $28.95

They're on the pinch bolts. They don't sell mounts for the 49mm tubes. They look a lot better where they are now. They elongate the bike and give it a sleeker look, especially if you also get the visor style headlamp trim ring.
If you eliminate them all together, you may encounter problems at state insp. time.

That's the set that attaches to the pinch bolts on the bottom plate of the triple tree. I don't care for the looks of that one.

Still looking for a kit that attaches to the fork tubes.

Thanks for the compliment...:crying:

To each his own...I think they look sweet.
I once took the turn signals completely off this bike. Late one dusky afternoon I was making a right turn with my left arm in the air making a signal, when a car almost ran over me. Rode home and put 'em back on. The smoked lenses purty 'em up, but I like a lot of light.

Exactly! To each his own. Shouldn't matter to you what I like. And I wasn't putting you down for what you like.
if you pull all the signals off it won't hurt anything, but if you hit the signal buttons, the security light will come on to alert you that a bulb is out.

Put in a Biketronics SmartEqualizer, following the instructions, and it should take care of any security light issues.

Also, the wire from the turn signal security module (TSSM) to the right signal switch is the antennna for the TSSM... you may want to leave that in place.

Good information!!
I just put Dr. Heathen Scum's LED taillight with the integrated turn signals on my Street Bob and it rocks! It is way, WAY brighter than the Kuryakyn Panacea and the amber turn arrow LEDs are amber even through the red lens.

I had him make mine with pass through connectors so I can run either the stock turnsignals or the LED turnsignals in the license plate frame I will be bolting on later with the taillight.

I have a smoked lens taillight w integrated turnsignals on my Deuce also and it is awesome, too. In my opinion Joe's lights are the only way to go if you want to get rid of or supplement the original turnsignals.

BTW, no affiliation, no kickbacks from Joe, just a happy customer!

Just my opinion here. I don't truly think most of the people driving out there know the three hand signal or what they mean. I use'em in heavy traffic along with my blinkers just to be seen. But like I said... ask around. See how many people you know that don't ride know the signals and what they mean. You'll be surprised. It's your life... just don't automatically think the 17 year old kid (that is supposed to have learned this crap in drivers education) driving the mustang behind you knows what the hell you're doing. The same goes for the soccer mom mini-van. they may think you're fanning your farts.

Same here. Blinkers, and hand signal. Even if they don't know the hand signals, when you stick your arm out it get's them looking, then they see the blinker.... hopefully. That's why I wouldn't take them off. Find something better, sure, but I wouldn't ditch them.
