Is the correct reading for tranny fluid correct when the engine is hot or when cold? I get two different readings. 2002 manual is vague.

Fluids should always be checked when warmed up if at all possible. The tranny dipstick has such a narrow "add/full" band on it that you probably won't see much difference. One thing about the tranny is that when you drain it you get almost every drop out. So, if you fill it by the ounces the manual calls for, you will most likely be right on the money without having to mess with it much.

My crankcase dipstick has a "Full Cold" line and a "Full Hot" line but I try to always check it hot when I get back from a ride (always on the kickstand). That way, if I need to add any, the bike is ready for the next ride without worrying about checking the oil. Didn't mean to go into engine oil.
