I took a rid eform central CA to Carson City, NV mid spring of last year. 99 from Fresno up to Modesto, then to Jackson on some local roads, then on 88 to Gardnerville. Passed a couple or three lakes that looked promising for fishing later in the summer. Beautiful weather, a little cool, but otherwise ok. Just past the ski area....I was scanning the mountain scenery when out of the corner of my eye I see movement in my lane about 1/4 mile ahead. At first it looked like a VW bug...turned out to be the biggest black bear I have ever seen.

I ride 88 quite a bit. Great road. Never saw a bear but I know they're
there. You probably rode 49 into Jackson. Thru Sonora and Jamestown?

I went from Bakersfield to Reno in 04 via Oakhurst, Jamestown, Sonora, Angels Camp, Markleeville and Carson City. It was a great ride. Didn't see a bear, but there was a huge dog sauntering casually across the road as we dropped into the Carson Valley. I think he heard me screaming at him (I was sure he would change his mind and run back in front of me) as I approached. As I went by he just gave me a WTF look back over his shoulder.

Yup, 49 in to Jackson. Never went through Sonora and Jamestown...went through Angels Camp and San Andreas.

Good ride, lots of stuff to see.
