Tank lift for touring bikes

Does anyone make a tank lift for touring bikes? I seen the one in the J&P catalog and it looks kinda lame, two flat straps. I was hoping that there was a more solid one available.

Anyone have any experience with a project like this?

Here is a link to photo bucket... Although the lift is on a softail, its certanily feasable for a touring model. I also added a rubber bushing on the underside of the rear of tank, which raised it about 5/8 "... Front was raised about 2 3/8".

I raised mine to show off the top of the engine, chrome motor mount and in the process gave it a bit of a chopper look… I really liked the profile.

If I remenber correctly I used the flat pieces that came on u-clamps. Had a couple in the barn. They had a bit of an edge on them. I sanded, primed and painted a couple of coats on them before the installed. I inserted a small piece of metal pipe like tubeing to use as a spacer so the ears of the tank would not be compressed in. The most of the cost was for the chrome acorn nuts and washers.
Like I said: I wanted to show more of the chrome on the top of the engine, and the chrome motor mount. I also liked the line I ended up with after the lift was completed.
I like to be an individual and made a few other changes or add on to the bike.
See if you can spot them. Its was easier in person...
