Hey all! New member here. Been soooking around a while but joined today.
I’ve got a strange issue and wonder if anyone else has seen it.
I have a 2007 FXD.
Last weekend I put new bars on, changed brake line and throttle cables.
I gently pulled some more wiring harness from the frame as I’ve done before.
Test rode the bike and all was good.
I forgot to cover it and it rained sideways that night.
When I went out the next morning the speedo and odometer were lit, but the forks were locked and no key.
I put the key in, turned it on then off and all was good.
I came home in the afternoon and only the odometer was lit. I put the key in and it was dead.
Battery charger tells me battery is toast.
Will a bad battery cause ghosts like this?
I’ve never seen this in 40 years of owning HD.
Any help would be great!!!!!!

The bike wasn't designed to work with a bad battery... Hope you were having a good time, while the bike sat in the sideways rain...Pony up.

The battery was fine sunday. Not fine Monday and for the month prior when I pulled from storage.

Water and electrical dont mix, maybe take a hairdryer and dry out all the connections. Laborious to be sure but other than putting it in a dry warm area until it dries this might be your best bet.

I was in the automotive electrical biz for 20+ years, then worked in a hot rod shop wiring cars for several more.
These computerized pieces of crap are frustrating.
My Shovel has 5 wires and a mag, as the great pumpkin intended.
My BSA chop? 4. Starts second kick.
This POS has had ghosts since day 1.

Call me old fashioned but I won't own fuel injected bike. I work on all my own stuff. I don't want to be carrying a laptop around to fix it. Nor do I want to deal with 17 different grounds loosening up...ill take the carb bikes anyday.

If all was good before the new bars then it's likely something got pinched or exposed when you made the change and caused a short?
