Hey everybody
Im 17 and working on convincing my folks to let me get a bike. The way things have gone, it looks like a definite possibility as long as it is a project. I really like the looks of softtails, and I heard that bikes from the 80's are decent to work on.

Any ideas for a kid??

If I were you I'd definitely get an Evo, they're quite staight forward technically. Parts are cheaper than twincam's and you can do your own maintenance.

However, if you can get a grip on a nice late Shovelhead,.....

If you want a cheap softail, i'd look for a late 80s to early 90s Evo model. You can probably find one in good condition, ready to ride for $6-7k.
