Stage 1 kit

I just put a deposit down on an EG standard. It will be my first EFI bike ever. I've read a lot about the Stage 1 kit.

What should I expect to pay for the upgrade? I assume it is actually a different EFI map & an air filter - is this correct. Sorry for the basic question, but I would like to be informed before discussing this with the dealer.

Also, I'm assuming the dealer has to install the EFI map?

thanks,
mike

After exploring the same basic question on this site for my 04 EGC, I purchased the A/C kit ($112) and Slash down mufflers ($256) from Benjy's (-20%) and decided to try the Revtech DFO ~$170 instead of remapping. The installation was easy and the DFO has worked great for over 10,000 miles now. Good luck.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is DFO.

Also, do you have to upgrade pipes. Call me crazy, but I'm not concerned about the sound - only if it's a must for a modest performance gain.

thanks
Stock pipes are too restrictive to take full advantage of the added air flow from the Stage 1 air filter upgrade so any performance improvement will be marginal I think. The slash down #64903-99 have a good sound, and were not too loud which was my initial concern. The DFO (Didital Fuel Optimizer) or remap is required to provide proper fuel mixture for the added air. As I understand it from others on this forum, unless you want to increase the redline rpm which the remap does, then a dfo is a good and less expensive approach. It is the way I went and it has worked very well. Do a search of stage 1 and you will find lots of good info and input to your questions. Lots of luck.
Single biggest performance differance was Stage 1 air cleaner.I added DFO and exhaust ,but air cleaner by far most bang for buck (seat of pants difference).

Just to be clear, doing only the air cleaner without exhaust and fuel adjustment will not be an acceptable mod.

The three go hand/hand. More air in (intake) means more air out(exhaust), hence the DFO (digital fuel optimizer) to enrich the burn to acceptable levels. Doing the intake and exhaust mods will leave the motor unacceptably lean resulting in engine damage (because the motor is breathing Sooooo much better).
Consider the primary gear change also, as described in other posts, and you may realize increased performance as well as increased fuel mileage.

Well said. Hadn't considered the primary gear change? Will take a look. Thanks
I had Petersons H-D of Miami do a Stage 1 mod to my '05 RKC, using the Screaming Eagle mufflers, billet end caps, remap, and SE air filter. Cost $1,000 and worth every dime. Much better than several friends who cobbled together various parts, and a DFO, trying to save a few bucks. I feel that the engineers at HD have this thing down pat, so I went with them.

but it could be sooooo much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep.

HD has built how many engines? Several million easily. Their engineers have obviously learned a thing or three.

The SE kits and combinations are well engineered performance solutions.

Absolutly correct! The trouble is finding someone smarter than the MOCO guys, who can deliver the correct combination of performance and sound, along with long term reliability.

you are correct. but there are some out there. and its not a problem of finding someone smarter, its attention to detail, and not having to worry about epa standards, liability suits etc.

How do you know if the guy you find is smarter? I want my bike to be EPA compliant, and immune to any liability factors..............in other words..........I want it done RIGHT.

But that's just me..........and probably why they make choclate and vanilla.

Happy Holidays! I'm goin' riding.
