Weird title for the thread, eh?
Anyhoo, I have a 2004 FXSTS and I want to convert to 14" - 16" apes. Not sure if I want to go standard 1" or 1.25" fatties though.
I've looked through the J&P catalog & I can only find 1 set of apes for the springer and they rise only 12.5". Does anybody know where I can pick up the bars I want?
Also, if anybody with experience doing this mod would like to give some pointers, I'd be much obliged.

Thanks in advance!

If you decide on 1.25"s, check out Chubbies @ wild1inc.com. Among other options, they make springer-specific 16" apes. I've seen some of their other bars, & the quality looked very good. Still trying to decide between apes or beaches for my Springer Classic, so haven't done the mod yet. There's a thread about disconnecting/lengthening/routing the wires in the bars around here somewhere, try a search. Swapping for longer cables/brake lines look pretty straightforward. Good luck.
OK, I'll try..........

Yes
No
Pointers -
Get the 1-1/4" you won't regret it
Put your wiring inside the bars
Click on my pictures below (only 12-1/2" Wildone bars, not the 14" to 16" you want)
Here is more advice - http://www.bikernet.com/garage/barwiring.asp
And here too - http://www.bikernet.com/garage/PageViewer.asp?PageID=138:cheers:
Have a 97 FXSTS and installed 12.5" Flanders apes w/internal wiring.
Check out their website, Many bars for Springers! Love the look and the feel
