This might not be the right thread for this but I can't seem to find a tech section with this info. I just picked up my 06 FXSTI and am going to install an adjustable rear lowering kit and can't find the torque specs for any of the bolts that are involved with the install. Can you guys share the specs with me or point me in the right direction.

Hey Larry, congratulations on the new bike. First of all I would say the Harley-Davison Service Manual will be the first thing you will need to get,it will have all the torque specs. you will need and assist in the maintenance and repair of your bike. Be sure and stop by the My Story Fourm to "formally" introduce yourself to other members. Lots of guys from the North Tx. area, Good luck. :thumbsup:

Ok, here it is. It wasn't really that hard, it just takes some time to work the shock bolts out of the rear swing arm. Then I had to do some fabricating on my hydraulic press, it didn't have enough throw to do it right. I was kind of proud of my shade tree mechanic skills. I ended up cutting 2x4's down and stacking 2 layers then clamping the base of the stand down to the top of the 2x4's too my work table, I then used the arbor's on top of 1 layer of 2x4's and it gave just enough clearance for the eye on the end of the shock to not rest on the bench and gave me over 5" of up travel once I pulled the retaining clips out. I should have taken a picture.

This is with the adjustment nuts all the way in, which gives the shortest shock and the least amount of drop which ended up being a little over an inch, which is just what I wanted. You can really slam the thing down if you want too.
The article and pics on http://fatbillscustoms.com/ really helped understand what was going to happen, I refered to it a couple times during the removal and disassembly.

In answer to your points, the mufflers are regular Screamin' Beagle Shorty Duals 80388-01 (not SEIIs). I find them loud enough to play a good tune, but not so much that they attract the wrong kind of attention. Things are getting difficult over here with non-standard exhausts. :nono:
The other item that caught your eye is a Self-Lubricating Universal Wench (part no 362436-69). Although it fits all models and looks real neat, the running costs can be high, so it's best to think long and hard before fitting one. :bleh: :bleh:

Yep. Bought her very stock in '93 and then did the chop in '99. It's cool cuz '84 was the first year for the FXST and the Evolution, so it still has the chain drive and 4 speed with electric and kick start. Can't go very far with that peanut tank, but I wouldn't change a thing!rkt88403 said:
