Hi Softailman. Yest this is Terrya12 AKA Nochrome. The name change was because I forgot my password and had to reregister. Anyway my bars are mini apes at 12.5 inches, $75.00 CDN. They are setup on 2 inch straight risers, $65.00 CDN. Both items were purchased at the local HD shop. The reason for this setup was cost. This is about the max in hieght you can go using the existing cables and wiring, just swap and go. Can be done in about one hour and several minutes. All I did was take the stock bars off with wires cables ect all attached and set them on the front headlight with a towel. Transfered the switch housings ect over to the new bars then mounted them to the new risers. An extra set of hands come in handy but not needed if your careful. You will need to straighten out the front brake line by hand very gently or you could crack it ( take your time). As for the ride, I'm 5' 11" so my arms come straight across and mirrors are just above eye level so I like the set up very much. Arms are not so high that they fall asleep on long trips and you still have plenty of controle of the bike. I have had this setup for three years now and have no plans on changing it. I also sit lower with the Badlander seat that is lower than the stock seat. This all adds to the seating position. Hope this helps.

I have a Danny Gray seat on my 05' looks great and can ride about 2hrs before my ass starts to tingle (pull over for a cigarette then good to go again). He has a speed cradle seat that moves you about 2in. forward with the front raised a little. check it out in J&P cycles..part # 801270

Hey all, I know there is a section on the forum for seats only. But I figured since I'm subscribed to this thread I'd ask fellow FXST/softail riders. I'm looking for a solo seat and was wondering what your opinions are on (1) Comfort (2) Look (3) I'd like the seat to move me forward a little (I'm 5.9 1/2). I imagine that a deep bucket seat would move me/ keep me forward..ya think? With the slope on my current seat the way it is my butt keeps sliding up it and eventually I get numb butt. From cruising the forum I've found that Lepera & Mustang are the seats of choice. Do ya agreee with that? Right now I have the 100th Anniv seat on (which is no better than the stock seat..'nuf said there). Hope ya don't mind the seat question but there are a zillion posts in the seat thread. Many with titles like "Help!". Yeah, that tells me what bike they're talkin about. Thanks in advance for any input. Peace.

What was the first year for the 200 rear tire on the FXST?

that would be the 2006 modles. why ya ask??
Lookin to trade in the Dyna. I really like the new fender and 200 tire on the new Softail Standard, but was hoping 2005 was the first year so I could get a deal on a previouls year model.
Helmet Lock?

I do not care for the appearance of the H-D helmet lock (haven't purchase one yet thank goodness). So what do you use for a lock? Thanks.

I don't use a helmet lock. My cheap 3/4 helmets are not cool enough that some one would want to steal them.

touche LOL I don't worry about mine either. If someone wants my nappy helmet that would give me a reason to order one of the new carbon fiber ones. :p

Since I have to wear Rx glasses to see anything, I must wear my helmet (full face). Although others may disagree with me, it is the only choice I have. so I need to keep it. Hence my question about a helmet lock.
BTW -- Rx riding glasses can not be made for my Rx.
AGV makes a cool 3/4 face helmet called the "Dragon." It's got a visor that flips down kind of like the fighter pilots' helmets. Here it is: http://www.dragspecialties.com/fatbook/prod_detail.asp?productID=71006

I've got one and I like it. You can also click on my photogallery link below to see more pics of the helmet (with my ugly mug wearing it). I wear glass, too BTW
Just found this Forum

06 FXSTI, Had an 04 883C... Looking forward to learning alot...
Have read a S load of threads but still have a question. I have a 05' FXST 88carb. What is the first thing I should do to my engine to get more power. Have a stage 1 kit bike jetted and all that and now I need more power and don't know where to start. Have read alot about the 95 upgrade new cams and such. Do I have to do everything at once, or is there things here and there to add on? I am looking for I guess drag racing power. Would love enough power to get the front wheel off of the ground.
right now you have plenty of power to get the fromt wheel off the ground. but yes you can do alot of things in stages, but some things you will want to do as a "package". you can start off with a "95 kit, then you could do cams and heads, such as porting and polishing. again you can do these together or seperate. i'm not sure what exhaust you're running, but if you wnat max power you need to look into a good 2-1 pipe like the thunderheader, or pro pipe. all of these things done right, and tuned together will make gobs of power. just remember, speed cost money....how fast do you want to go?

josh
I would like to go about $1500.00 faster. Not really sure which way to go with the money though. Any ideas. I will be running Hell Bent pipes.
for that much you could get a 95" kit, and your heads done by Big Boyz (site sponsor). that is a good starting point. then i would ocnsider a set of cams, but it's your money. by the way that is not the best choice of a pipe for making power. if you want to get the most out of your build, you'll really need a 2-1 pipe.
josh
Yeah that is the 1 sacrifice I am going to make. I love the look and sound of the Hell Bent pipes. Might change my mind though. Have to see how many noise pollution tickets I get this spring and summer.

Terry, this is my first response on V Twin. Thanks for the reply. I thought you had ridden over the horizon and forgotten to come back.
Never mind that though, your bars look just great. The answer explains everything, particularly the cable being long enough and the cost is also an issue with me.
By the way I am the same height, nearly (5' 10'' 3/4) and have a similar low seat.
Last thing what does CDN mean.
I have a friend going to the states next month and we pay double the price over here (England) for parts and he will bring them home for me.
If you have any more info, ie part numbers I would be grateful (mine is a 2002 FXST Like yours but I need some catchup ).
This year I am putting a 150 Tyre on the rear and lowering the suspension.
Thanks keep in touch.
Softailman I don't have any part numbers for you, sorry. All I can say is they were purchased at the local Harley shop and are 12.5" miniapes. I see them in every HD shop I've been at. CDN is short for Canadian. I have an adjustable lowering kit on mine, White Brothers is the brand at a cost of about $80.00. I'm not on this site as much as I used to but I check in now and again. When your ready for the install I'd be happy to answer anymore questions. Good luck dude.
heres mine too
