Ok here goes: When I bought my 2000 Softail it came with a set of Vance and Hines pipes. They were way too loud (plus I have an ear sensitive to loud noises - result of not wearing hearing protection during Top Fuel dragsters warming up). I found a set of pipes with less than 50 miles on them from an 05 Deuce. Everything matches up except the cast iron bracket, part number 65435-00 muffler support. The support will align and mount to the muffler brackets and the foot peg bolt hole on the frame. However, that is it. The lower part of the support does not align with the two holes below the swing arm pivot bolt.
Do you know of a factory or aftermarket support bracket that will mount better especially below the swing arm bolt?

well, you are not the only new owner of a Softail. I have just purchased a softail for my enjoyment to rip around town! a week in and i love this bike. i'm going to use the winter to do some aftermarket customization's like powder coating, maybe jump up to a stage II kit, and (maybe) replace the cam tensioner. gonna seek my step-dad's advice on that. my bike has no record of it being done... (at least, not by the dearship, and only other owner had Biketown of Austintown do all their work).

I got a 1991 fxstc not too long ago. Needed quite a bit of work. I got a Clymer book with it but am now trying to find the correct Factory Shop manual for it. By the vin # the bike was made in 1990. The bill of sale says its a 1991. The manuals im seeing are 1985 to 1990 and the next covers 1991 to 1992. So...are the shop manuals for date of manufacture or date of sale? Mine has chrome crown nuts on it so I suspect they are aftermarket. Thats a good reason to have a shop manual. It will show what original parts would be such as bolt sizes.

just bought a 1999 with 19,000 miles in good shape except the starter went bad as I was riding it home to NC from VA . would start after some tapping on it but that doesn't work now . ordered a replacement starter from amazon for $120 overnight but got the wrong starter now waiting till Monday for them to send the right one . it is an upsize from my sportster as these old bones needed something easier on them . the ride was awesome at 70 it it will straighten your arms when you twist the wick . have no clue as to any mods other than new plug wires and screaming eagle regulator under the seat . slip-ons of some kind no baffles , got to tone that down a little .I really like it

I just got a 2003 FXST. It's been sitting for years, so I haven't road it yet. And it's my first bike.
