2005 FXST/I ...... currently trying to find saddle bags that will work with the quick disconnect sissy bar system....I currently have Viking Warrior bags however the mount they sent looks nothing like the one in their video...bunch of bolts and nuts and spacers...no instructions...returning them..shouldn't need to fab up the entire mount for a bag that's "recommended to fit" lol...

Other than that have enjoyed this bike. Have installed a few odds and ends as the bike has 71K miles and needs minor things replaced....but riding strong and miles of smiles!

Hey everyone. Recently purchased a 2003 soft tail standard. 100 hr anniversary model. I'm 5'2 and and forward controls are a bit of a reach for me. I don't really want to change to forward seat. Would like to change to mid-controls, currently has forward controls. Any Ideas?

Don't really know of any mid-controls for a Softail, closest thing I can think of off the top of my head would be floor boards off something like a Fat Boy.

Good advice. I'm 6'4" and the floorboards on my FatBoy are way too far back. But the pegs on my FXST are 3" in front of the frame, so it's what you get used to.

Most bike shops could show you floor boards that would work for you. Have to say, the floorboards are nice for moving your feet around. I just need to move mine forward.

Since I'm a new owner of a Softail Standard,I thought that I would see who else here owns the same.
Hey there...I'm new to the forum and have always looked to it for advice and opinions on different topics...
I recently purchased a 1985 Softail back in Nov. last year...and I'm learning by doing...I did have a 1948 Shovel/Pan that I built back in '78, my first Harley that I got my hands on experience as a Harley owner...Now I have this 1985 Evo motor to learn on and having a grand time doing it...It feels good to smell like gas and grease again...

Are you building that EVO or just leaving it stock? I went .030 over, high dome pistons, light head work, Woods cam, etc. etc. and then put it on the shelf and dropped in an S&S V111.

Performance upgrade question

I just purchased a 2000 Softail and would like to know what are the first performance upgrades I should do? The bike will only be used for cruising around town and short trips. I’m not looking to breaking the bank. It currently has a set of Vance and Hines Straight Shots on it with the carb jetted for the pipes.

You ought to put longshots with the baffle for around town riding. Get a 15" Klockwerks windscreen. You get protection with a view like riding without one. A Linby highway bar is in order. Get a Badlands stop/go/signal module with the red lens kit. A different seat if your azz hurts within 40 miles. A better headlight is needed. You can go the led lights route or like I did bought Adjure headlight and spots for $129. Order the DK catalog. It is 1100 pages and is most impressive.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just ordered the Dennis Kirk catalogue.
Now, I would like a recommendation on handlebars. Currently, it has the OEM factory rise handlebar. I’d like to lower the bar by about six inches. I ordered and have received a 28” wide drag bar with a 3 1/2” pullback. The bar seems too narrow. Any suggestions?

Low Beam Problem

I have an '03 (100th Anniversary) Softail Standard.
Just picked it up from a Used Dealer about a month ago. There are No Warranties available & I knew that, but anyhow................. I hadn't ridden but a couple of times at night, when I found out the Low Beam wasn't working. I checked the Bulb Inside, the Connections, the Switch & wiggled the wires. Apparently, when I move the handle bars back & forth, the light will come back on, but I can't always re-create the problem. Most times it just stays off. High Beam works Fine. Any suggestions or solutions before I bring it back for diagnostics?
