I have a complete drag bar setup including clutch cable, throttle cables, and risers that I took off my 2004 FXST. If you're interested, let me knowHey all,new to the forum.I have an '04 FXST pretty much stock.Lookin to replace bars and risers with drag bars but other than that nothing fancy till I can afford the paint scheme I want.
nice, very nice....Well it's been a learning experience but fun. I think I'm done with the additions for this year, what you think?? I've added pretty much everything thats not stock this past month and did the engine upgrades last winter.
I've kind of got used to the crappy look of my spokes. Not really. Would like to replace with polished stainless steel spokes, so would like to know which ones you used. And did you relace your own rims and who trued them? I'd have to find someone here in the Detroit area to do the truing part. I can do the relace part.I installed polished twisted spokes on my Heritage this year - a major upgrade from the stock crap. If you plan on keeping the bike for a long time i'd suggest you go with polished rather than chrome spokes. The chrome spokes will look like crap after a few years. A good set of polished spokes are about twice the price of chrome but they will last the life of your bike. And, IMO, they look better than chrome.
@gree: Poor mans check is to pull your oil filter, cut it open, and look for pieces..........Welcome to V-Twin!
I would say given the mileage on your bike you really need to or have the cam chain tensioners checked, common problem with the twin cams.
Landmark and Buchanan make really good spokes. These are the only two i'm familiar with. I have the Buchanans on my Heritage. I waited until my tires needed replacing to have it done. I let my local Indy mech do the relacing and mount the new tires on my original rims. It was a fairly expensive upgrade but i'm really happy with the results. I think the spokes alone were around $300 and that doesn't count the labor.I've kind of got used to the crappy look of my spokes. Not really. Would like to replace with pplished stainless steel spokes, so would like to know which ones you used. And did you relace your own rims and who trued them? I'd have to find someone here in the Detroit area to do the truing part. I can do the relace part.
That ain't chrome that's raw metal. You can use any polyurethane stripper. This isn't exaclty the best place to ask questions, you won't get a lot of responses. Also it's considered polite to introduce yourself in the My Story forum....Hi,
I have a 07 softail standard with black painted oil tank. The paint is peeling off the tank and theres chrome under the paint. Has anyone stripped the paint off down to the chrome? If so what did you strip the paint off with? Thanks.
Patrick
got pics??? Never heard of them painting a chrome tank and putting it on a brand new bike, just doesn't make sense. It's possible that it's polished stainless steel but that wouldn't make sense either....Actually it is just as shiny as the chrome pipes that are on the bike. It is not like unprimed metal. I showed it to my nephew that is an auto painter. He said he couldn't believe that they would paint on chrome. Going to take it to the harley shop tomorrow to see what they say about it since it's still under warranty. Probably won't get a response from them.
