November 4, 2007
FROM STAFF REPORTS
MANHATTAN TOWNSHIP -- A Minooka man has been arrested on a charge of reckless homicide after a fatal two-vehicle crash Friday on Manhattan-Arsenal Road, Will County police said.

Derrek McElroy, 33, of Minooka, the driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash, has been arrested on charges of reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, said Pat Barry, spokesman for the county police.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:24 p.m. Friday on Manhattan-Arsenal Road near Cherry Hill Road in Manhattan Township.

On Saturday, the Will County coroner's office identified the victim as Vance R. Sonntag, of Manhattan. Sonntag, 63, was the driver of a motorcycle involved in the crash, police said.

Police and the coroner's office are investigating the crash. Funeral home arrangements for Sonntag were pending Saturday, the coroner's office said.

Sad to have lost someone that offered so much back to alcoholics and thereby his community...but we gotta refrain from judging the intoxicated driver as well...but for the grace of God it could have been anyone of us...

My prayers to Vance's family and friends including all those touched by his efforts...and my prayers as well for the other driver and his family, this is gonna be a dark time for them too...
