i have been noticing that for the last couple of rides, i pull into my garage, turn the fuel off, but I have a constant smell of gas around the bike. There isn't any gas leaks but yet the smell of my bike is alot more than my buddy's 98 sporster. I have a 95 sportster.
What can be causing the pronounced smell? any ideas, suggestions?
thanks alot

Check your gas cap. It is vented and is suppose to let air IN and keep the gas fumes from coming OUT. If the little valve inside is damaged it could be letting out fumes. This would be more noticalbe after a ride when the engine is heating up the gas and vaporising it allowing it to escape through the vent.

Easy way to check a gas cap is to remove it and try to blow through it. It should not allow you to, then try to suck through it, it should allow you to. Of course don't inhale the fumes and it is best to let it sit for a while, off the tank, so you don't inhale any vapors.

If anyone should ask what you are doing, tell them ... blow'n and suck'n.
