Need help.
Early 81 FXE (1340) shovelhead. I have a broken bolt on the underside of
the front rocker cover. It held the bracket for my carb.
I tried to drill it and use an easy out but the bolt crumbles everytime the
easyout gets a bite. I have gone up two sizes and now my hole is off center.
I have pulled the tanks and am looking at pulling the cover off.
It looks like I have to pull the cylinder head/cover as a unit and then
take the rocker cover off the cylinder head.
Is there anyway to get the rocker cover off without pulling the head?
This is the wrong time of the year for a complete teardown. :(

No. The cylinder head must come off for rocker box removal. It would be easier to remove your problem bolt with the head off anyway, as you already know. Once out, you will need some welding, drilling and re-tapping.

head and rocker cover

Thanks for the second on the opinion. I have it on the workbench and will go
by the local indy with it on Tuesday. Wonder if he'll have shovelhead
gaskets in stock? LOL
